I know the Graphics for D3 look much improved over D2, but i wounder if D3 will be found to be lacking in the areas that kept D2 interesting for so long.
First, everything I have seen seems so compact space wise. no room to move.
Second, man it just seems a bit slow.
Third, I hope there are more screen res choices. I prefer the far away view. This up close trailers make this feel more like Warcraft than Diablo.
Fourth, they say the game is more quest driven. Great, more useless quests to impede leveling...
Last, how is PVP gonna end up like? The Game seems too slow and Confined for this major part of the game.

Watch again, the fight against the durial like boss (siege boss) is on an open area, well not really open, but more open and less compact than the little cave where you fought duriel. Since you compared it to the things that kept D2 interesting...
Keep in mind that you have seen only a tiny part of what is available and even less than what is planned before the game is done. You have seen random dungeons, the non random outdoor areas are most likely large and anything but compact.
Second, man it just seems a bit slow.
Same as D2. When the barbarian is choked in narrow hallways he will not go trough it very quickly when only doing a simple melee swing. Watch again at the pace where he uses the whirlwind move and compare that to D2. It is exactly the same pace.
Third, I hope there are more screen res choices. I prefer the far away view. This up close trailers make this feel more like Warcraft than Diablo.
Again, compare to D2. This is exactly the same camera angle and distance.
Fourth, they say the game is more quest driven. Great, more useless quests to impede leveling...
They are optional, they do not impede your leveling.

I do not agree with you about the pace of the game, you are indeed being pessimistic. I would advice you to play Diablo2 again and to re-evaluate your opinion about this compared to what you have seen for Diablo3. Or you could of course stay pessimistic if you like being in that state of mind :p

The trailer we saw was mostly inside a sanctuary, which are often small corridoors. Just like the catacombs in Diablo 1.
For me personally it gave me back the feeling of Diable 1 with the mechanics of Diablo 2 and 3 :D
The pase isnt to slow either imo.. Remember those bug things in diablo2 that lay eggs and spawn 6 smaller bugs.. in Hell mode they could block the way for miles :P now that was slow pace :P
Just because everyone in the game doesn't have enigma on and is teleporting around at 80 miles an hour so they require an entire clear act to even maneuver, doesn't mean it won't be a good game.

Great post. I think a lot of people dont remember what Diablo 2 was like because some of these posts are just mind boggling.
Well, it's also important to remember that these are early trailers, so of course there isn't "much to see" (heck, I thought it was a lot!). As others said, D2 had many confined and narrow areas (may I just remind of the wormhole in act2...), tough I certainly preferred the wide open places as well. Well, maybe minus the jungle ;), except with certain builds. Darn flayers.

I hate dueling myself, but one of the reasons I hate it is becasue it is too fast paced for me. I can't tell what is going on and it seems the brat with the worst ADHD who clicks the fastest lands the killing blow. I would love to see it slowed down. I agree with Rcuhljr; we're used to seeing a bunch of dins poping around the screen with their cheese nigmas--all that looked retarded and I look forward to a slower scene where we can see what's happening.
I think the barb in the video was using zero faster run/walk gear (if it even exists in the game) so we could clearly get a good impression of the game. He was afterall naked throughout the start.

You sound like the kind of guy who power levels to end game to equip his end game equipment to level up some more until your lvl 99. All this time never experiencing the game once. Then you repeat.
How boring.

I HATE Enigma! I loved the classic Necro duels with out Enigma! They were so fun! Back then you actually required skill to beat the other classes.
I really hope they don't allow for an item to give the teleport skill in D3!

You're listening to a guy speak instead of music. The game seems slow. Coincidence?

I hope they don't allow the teleport skill in D3, period.
Or at least not without a whopping big spell delay. Something on par with Meteor's delay, at least.

The Distance might seem the same to you if you play D2 in 800x600 mode. D3 is more focused on a smaller area. Maybe this is done to show off graphics detail.
When I mentioned pace I was referring to Attack speed, not killing speed. Yeah, the WW does move like the D2's, but every other attack seemed like it was in Impale speed. Again, this might be because of the smaller screen.
To me he ran around very slow, that I noticed straight away. But instead of thinking this is just the way it is, I hoped improved running speed from skills or boots would be available. I played frenzy barbs and believe me, you don't need an Enigma to need a whole zone to turn in. All together Barbs in DII are fast moving, and a full party blazing through mobs at good speed is some of the best the game has to offer.

The Barb isn't wearing any IAS or R/W gear - all of his armor is white, and he has no jewelry. Also note that he doesn't appear to have any skills that increase IAS or R/W. Taking that into consideration, I think the preview was right in-line with D2.
I'm hoping that D3 is ultimately as fast or faster than D2 was at the high-end. Part of the challenge of action games like this is being able to both think and react quickly. The entire point is that players shouldn't be given time to catch their breaths or slowly consider a situation - players are thus pushed to develop aptitude for playing these games at high speeds. Slowing the game down removes the need for both fast thinking and twitch, which hurts high-end play.

Yea, that style works for Warcraft and Starcraft because they are more troop command based.
I just get this weird feeling based on the feel of that trailer that big changes are on the horizon. While that might be great for purists of the storyline, I admit it has been the offsprings of the game (like Dueling and Trading) have kept me playing over the years.
Oops, forgot to mention trading. Since D2 was so unabashedly unashamed of being mule/transfer unfriendly, I wonder what road they will take in d3.
