I'm a sucker for punishment...just did Countess, got a Key...ran on to get wp for Cloister and mule it...saw the Pits on the way...stop...muse I might find some good stuff in there...came across an ambush of Rogue Archers with curse from below me, Skeletons with Might from the right and Fallen boss with lightning from the left...merc goes down in 2 secs, I S&E immediately...here's the sucker for punishment part...I rejoined for revenge and the same thing happened except I tried to fight on and got my bum handed to me...lost a nifty 30 to life 22 to mana large charm and a 19 to life 7% poison res that I picked up on the way to the Tower and i'm mostly peeved at the loss of a Fal rune, aforementioned Key and my 33% Gheeds, to say nowt of my gear which wasn't bad...oh well, rebuild with a Sorc next I think as that was my first ladder death...

Sorry to hear that mate. I guess you have no chars at the moment, so as soon as your new sorc hits level 24, I can rush you through normal and we can do some Baals together, as I´m struggeling for levels aswell.

Mucho appreciatedo my friend, I think as I am not at work today (twisted my ankle very badly at the weekend, ripped some stuff, nicely coloured) I will get on before KTA and get her started...I have the runes and an empty 4-socket Broadsword for a Spirit so that should get me off the ground with her...i'll shout you if I see you on, thanks again :thumbup:

I have always thought of there being a need for a R.I.P. thread discussion. Sometimes you just want more of the story, or just to comment but you can't.

So I approve of this thread.

Sorry, for the loss, it sucks to lose a character, but it seems like you have the friends to help get you back on your feet luckily.

This is the way to do it. We can't have discussion in the RIP thread or it becomes a total mess (or worse a PK debate).

Cause of demise: Tried taking on Duriel solo. At level 19, I thought it would be cake, but its damn hard killing at the early lvls with the orb/tk build. Anyway got down to the chamber static'ed him to half health and emilio died in 2 hits. Tried to tp back but Duriel got on top of me fast. Hit me once knocked me down to half health and interrupted my tp cast. Tried to S&E, hit esc mouse slipped and mashed the left mouse button. Saw the video options screen and knew I was done.

Lesson: Don't panic and don't be an idiot:crazyeyes:

Sorry to hear that, but at least this death was unnecessary. In normal you should always drink black bottles before fighting Andariel and white bottles before fighting Duriel to improve poison and cold res. Feed a few to the merc aswell then he lasts longer.

Had gotten the City waypoint but did not see Izzy on my way (wasn't doing a total clearing because again, I was in a hurry to get to NM forge). So I decided to double back and hit Izzy before I went ahead onto River. Got overwhelmed by a bunch of nasty Gloams and died a very quick death. Thanks to TheDarkSide for helping me loot. Been quite a while since I had a death I probably needed a reminder. I was playing WAY too recklessly.

In a 8 player game, decided to take on Diablo. All was going well until Big D lightninged all my skellys, so I tp'ed out to grab some more from cold plains. Diablo had about 1/5 life left so I was happy, entered back through my tp and instantly Diablo started his lightning attack again, straight at me. I think I died in less than a second, while trying to quaff my rejuvs. Note to self for next time, don't tp so close to Diablo. *Tear.

Sorry for your loss. It seems I was just luckier than you yesterday. I did the same on Hell for the reason, that your minions need ages to regroup on Dia and when I came back he instantly Boneprisoned me. Really bad feeling beeing two yards away from Dia, unable to move, one finger on the Juvs, mentally ready for S&E. Luckily my Gumby and Decryptify slowed him down that much, that he didn´t try anything on me, before my skellies had destroyed my prison.

And a second note for all you Summoners out there:
BE CAREFUL WHEN CLICKING ON EVIL URNS.
Even worse then my trip to Dia, was a careless click on an evil urn in act5 thinking my skellies will handle it. The monsters of the evil urn spawned right on top of me so the situation looked like this, me in the middle, then a circle of monsters and arround that a circle of skellies. With a little more bad luck on the monsters mods, this would have been my first RIP entry, so I just had a heartbeat of 140 and 8 big purples less, when the inner ring disappeared.

Nasty little pack there -- but not (by far) the worst I've run into in the Tower; Champion Ghosts or Archers with Might or Fanaticism, particularly as stair traps on the odd-numbered levels, are even worse. :omg:

BTW -- Running anywhere in HC Nightmare or Hell without a belt of nice big, fat purple potions (especially as a melee fighter and even more especially if you're a Berserker and can't leech) == verrrry bad idea! Every one of my HC characters, even the ones just starting out, have a purple-colored belt; helps immensely in getting past act bosses, too.

Condolences on your loss there. It's still an accomplishment to get to Hell in the first place, which I have yet to do this ladder season... wish me luck.

I have to agree with this. My characters generally have 1 row blue, 3 rows purple. A healing potion will not always be enough to heal you quick enough. You need the insta heal of a rejuv more often then not.

My Zerker's though, tend to be 1 blue/1 red/2 purple. Since they have no way of leeching, and sometimes the Insight/Prayer Merc heal is a bit to slow.

My first real HC character. Was clearing through act 2 with a couple of gauss members, was a bit worried that my resists were too low but otherwise our small group was very capable. Just killed summoner, running to Tal Rasha's Tomb, I stop for a second to increase the volume in options menu... BAM slain by a Hellcat javalin thrown from off screen in a single hit. It all happened so fast that I hit enter to exit options... and ended up exiting the game instead. Thanks to the guys who were playing with me, was fun and hope you managed to kill duriel without any hiccups.

BO's myself - E-shield up, tele'd down no sweat, clicked stairs to visit nilly. Dead, just dead, insta-death i call it. Stair trap with LOTS of aura'd snakes, no chance of tele..... nothing just super fast death. Maybe a hint of tiny lag there but not a thing I could do, am totally gutted. :weep:

She had my best items, Anni gone, Charms gone, 6 keys gone (had the keyset dammit!), Merc was decked out too.

Picked myself up and started a hammerdin for revenge!! God damn it D2 if your bugged with overpowered insane damage snakes! meet my hammer!!! :evil::evil:

Dunno really. Something dropped me to like 20 HP's in a single go (from 430, had ES on but that took only 25% damage). It was one of Flamespike's little brothers that did the final deed (MS/ES even), but I suspect the real cuplrit was an FE boss that died to my first Orb (didnt even see it, only saw a different color amongst the stuff that died). I saw my HP's drop, thought "maybe I should pop a juve here.." and the next instant... *gunk* ... within ten seconds of hitting the WP I was dead.

Ankeli was so kind as to trample the little bugger into the ground. Alas... well... at least she didnt have any gear worth mentioning, so that's ok :) But its a shame of the Lovely_Lydia's Chainmail with Stealth in it.

My sorc was doing great all the way to this very moment and together with the gausscommunity we had done tons of baalruns. Anyways, it happened at the same time as the Lister pack spawned. Was picking up an item where the minions spawn to then go back, but right when i was about to teleport back the antivirus poppup shows up and tabbed down the game. The char was standing a little to the left so i thought i could manage to S&E before she got deeds. Well, she died at the same time as i saw the game screen.

Had an eth tomb reaver and plenty of gems which i wanted to mule, but instead i kept on playing like nothing would happen. She will be rebuilt, but this time with max block instead of more hp.

Was doing fine participating in Hell Baal runs just keeping monsters off people's backs with Leap when I did not pay attention and entered a TP into Throne that was called "not safe".
And not safe it was. I insinctively popped a juvie, Leap Attacked away and hit Alt-F4 in mid-air... JUST after I got toasted, so I ended up with an invisible character and ofcourse no possibility to loot :badteeth:

Too bad, he was real fun to play, although he had a real hard time killing in Hell diff.

Seems like the KTA-crew and Mr. Bear had a crappy weekend. Sorry to read all those RIPs guys.

Cause:
CE/LE. I had tried to solo my way through Hell A1, but my merc got murdered everywhere we went past the Dark Wood, so I decided to take it easy and get some levels in (and hopefully some items) in Stoney/Trist (little to no cold immunes :p).
Was doing fine for a couple of "runs" until we were fighting a Crow bosspack. I noticed the CE/LE so stepped WAY back, merc pops the culprit and after the CE ring was gone my health starts dropping in two HUGE chunks without a monster ANYWHERE in sight. Popped a juvie after the first one, but the second one tore me a new one.

Tbh, I'm getting pretty tired of ridiculous bugged deaths like this...

Is there a bug with cele monsters similar to the fele bug on NM that will carry cold damage/phys damage on the last spawned bolts from an exploding monster?

A rebuild of my previous bear, this one was turning out even better! Had a perfect Jalal's, Kosolap's Windhammer (decided to use that over IK maul for fun), Dracul's, Aldur's armor+boots, some good charms, angelics... Having 10,000AR, 3500dmg, 4000 life, mauling with fireclaws through Act2 hell was going smoothly, just found a Bonehew there. Went into act1 to kill Bone Ash -- my antivirus starts updating, slows and completely freezes the game. I drink some full rejuvination potions, Alt+F4, come back and find him dead

Savage savage death there man, condolences :(

Very sorry to hear about the loss of your Sorceress. That sux. But...

Window$ anti-virus program blues? Fix follows.

(1.) Surf to : http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

(2.) Burn Ubuntu Linux 8.04 Desktop CD to CD-R / RW. Set PC BIOS to boot from CD as first boot device. Reboot.

(3.) Click "Install" icon on desktop. Choose "Use entire hard disk for Ubuntu" and "Completely Delete Windows Permanently?" options.

(4.) When new O/S installs, reboot.

(5.) Run Synaptic Package Manager from "System -> Administration" menu. Seach for and install WINE Windows compatibility layer application.

(6.) Configure WINE. (I recommend running Window$ applications in a separate window -- with full-screen there's too much of a chance of a misbehaving Window$ program doing stupid things like grabbing 100% of the CPU and not letting you back to the Linux Desktop.)

(7.) (Re)Install Diablo II and LoD by double-clicking "SETUP.EXE" application from relevant CDs. Allow patch 1.11b to download and install when you next connect to Battle.Net.

(8.) Enjoy playing Diablo and your Window$ games without ever having to worry about stupid Window$ "Product Activation", (sic.) "Genuine Advantage", anti-virus programs, pop-ups that corrupt games, or, of course, viruses and malware. Enjoy the free OpenOffice software suite that costs zero, as opposed to Micro$oft Office for ~$1400.

(9.) Have a good laugh at the expense of all those poor masochists who are still, for some reason unknown to me, still voluntarily suffering at the hands of Mssrs. Gates' and Ballmer's bloated, CIA-backdoored, DRM-crippled, agonizingly slow and inefficient so-called operating system.

(Or, of course, if you prefer, keep running Window$. That way you'll get lots of experience in starting new Hardcore characters from Level 1.)

We were battling our way towards Duriel in the Tomb during our weekly KTA session. Only three were present, namely a singer barb, a bonemancer and my Conviction Avenger pally. Were doing Ok-ish until we ran into a pack of Blunderbores. I noticed the boss being FE/CE so I immediately types a warning message, but while I was typing the Bonemancer Shift-Click Bonespirited him, and me, to death.

My bad, I should have walked back before typing. On to the next run ^^

MY FAULT!! NOT YOURS!! The shift-click tends to gravitate towards a boss monster, which in our case was not a good thing, so very sorry dude!

I do hope you reported him to Blizzard...I know it seems like they won't do anything but sometimes they do...I mean c'mon, insult to injury; if you could have looted it would have been a killer blow to die, not a killer blow x2 when they guy was that much of a *"&^$%$^*%$*(^$^ to not let you loot!! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!?!

Coincidentally, yesterday I almost lost my own (then) Level 52 Javazon (with her shiny new self-found ethereal Titan's!!! :thumbup: ) like that; by now I'm wise to the fact that you don't tug on Superman's cape and you don't melee FE Geleb in Nightmare, but I had chucked my (then) 4.5K Plague Java at Toorc; he was down to about 1/4 health when I noticed that he was FE as well, so I rapidly ran away as the Valk gave him the final poke... which would have been my final poke, too, had I not.

I guess the moral of this story is, everybody knows about Geleb, but you gotta watch those other ones, they can spawn FE as well, with random modifier.

Stun and FELE really don't mix. Whenever I play a character who stuns, or am with a character who stuns, I always back off that wave till I know Bartuc doesn't spawn FELE. Otherwise, deeds comes fast, especially from a 105+ FCR Singer Barb who sets off the death explosion multiple times FAST.

Back when I played SC I had a singer and I, for some reason, ended up running a ton of Nightmare Baals. Sure enough, whenever Bartuc rolled FELE, I'd die.

Never going to make that mistake again, I just wish it hadn't been such a costly character.

Happened to me as well dude, lost a MF Tal's Sorc (iirc!) in the same situation...I questioned the TPPK'er if they had the item I was after and all they were doing was camping my TP to WSK2 where I was MF-ing waiting for someone with the item to turn up! Details probably in this very thread, maybe the old one...my memory lapses... :crazyeyes: I make a new game now if someone won't leave when I question them!
Anyway, condolences for the loss dude!

First, I feel for you, man, and I just hate hearing about things like this happening. This TPPK BS has utterly, completely, ruined public Realm play on Battle.Net.

Second, if I heard some crap nonsense from a Level 92 character like "I don't have a TP", I would have instantly gone back to town and trash-talked this ******* with something like "how stupid do you think I am, dude". But the fact is, it's his fault, not yours. Murder is far too kind a treatment for pathetic little creeps like the 14-year-old who's no doubt playing the Druid, giggling about how he "pwned" you. He's a cheater and a loser... that's all he is.

Third, in another thread recently, people are complaining that I'm "paranoid" about allowing untrusted players to join my Hell-difficulty games on Battle.Net.

I bet you're getting a little paranoid, too, right? Remember: "Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean that they aren't out to get you."

Sorry to hear about that, good luck on the rebuild... I have some spare Necro stuff lying around if you need it,

I'm not paranoid, I just don't party with other people unless their underleveled, I have more than max resistances, or they're paladins/assassins/barbarians. I've always been careful since I know about the dangers of tppk; I just had a moment lapse in common sense, especially since Fishymancer runs are usually pretty slow.

It was actually quite amusing since I had asked him what he joined my game for, right before entering the portal. He responded "what do you think" as I smashed my head into the keyboard. I didn't curse at him or anything, just called myself and idiot and told him good job or something.

I appreciate the condolences/help offer, but it's okay. He did his job by finding enough equipment to fund a decent Hammerdin for faster mf purposes. The most expensive piece of gear he was wearing was probably a Shako, so I didn't lose much except for some good charms and the couple of runes/items in stash. I had xfered most of my stuff a couple of games earlier, so at least I was fortunate in that respect.

Ahh thanks man but I knew better really .. I posted this in the necro forum --->

I learned a lot about playing this build in the few weeks I had him running ..
1) its expensive and the items do not come cheaply , neither do Insight Golums
2) its very powerful once decked out in decent gear - I ended up with 35 point Skeleton mastery , Skeleton mage , Golum mastery , 33 Lower resist .
3) its very fun to teleport as a Necro with Minions
4) I learned without BO and max resists he is a bit fragile - IE - Deeds ...

I was wearing the following - P topaz Shako , Enigma , P diamond Homonculus , 35 % fcr Spirit Sword , Goldwrap , +1 Marrowalks , +3 summoning ammy , rare rings . My merc was decked out with a Obediance thresher , Tals mask, and an Ethereal Black Hades with P topazes ...

Was a very fun build though and I made it to level 85 and was killing everything I do with my Blizz / baller sorc with him . I even ran the Mini Bosses and collected the organs with him one time . I didnt have max resists on him and on the remake I'll be sure to get that corrected . In the end the 25 Lightning resist with no absorb is what got me toasted .. I normally wont try and tele WSK without wearing a Tgods but I felt safe the 100 other times I made it through ...

Lucky me I didnt get looted either so Im starting over with ghetto items again , but thats HC for ya and Ofc_DarkMajik will rise again ....

And finally - I had just come home from my evening walk and was feeling good so I fired up some D2 and hoped into the game . I had just turned on my other computer and while it was booting up I hit Pindle , Shenk , Eldritch , Mephisto and did the countess with no problems . I was just going to take a peek in the WSk and see if any gloams were there . I got to the first bend and as soon as I walked in the line of sight of the SOULS they must have all hit me at once . I was toasty and heard the scream and I just sat there shaking my head as my other computer was idling away begging to be logged in . I told myself Id never not have loot in a game again as I have 3 legit cd keys but for some reason I took the risk and it backfired on me again ..

Ahh wel Im back to level 8 with the rebuild as of log out last night and the cycle begins again ...

Cause of demise: I was teleporting just another baal run when the house phone rings, i know it can sometimes cut the connection so i quickly save and exit. I whispered the others (/f m) saying i was on the phone and would be right back. Ended the phonecall 10 seconds later and rejoined; got failed to join game. Glanced down in the channel to see i was robed. I can only assume the phone ringing did lag the line for just enough time to get me as those in game said i died then almost immediately timed out.

Went back to the death site to see a conviction snake pack. Still surprised they got me, i was pretty stacked and had barb BO. Lost some nice items, perfect sorc torch, 20/15/10 annihilus, perfect maras, cold skillers w/ life amongst other things i'd collected. Really not too fussed about the items though, losing a level 97.5 char is brutal.

So i guess that marks the end of my bid for a 99 hardcore character before Diablo 3, because i don't really feel like remaking!

Special shoutout to Spawn_Wretched who levelled with me nearly the whole way and lost his 97 necro about a week ago, crazy bastard has rerolled though, good luck Spawn!

Yeah, make sure you get that absorb plus max lightning res. Even maxed, those bolts can sometimes add up.

Also, when my necro was still alive, every once and a while I'd get nearly creamed by a group of Cold enchanted Souls. I think elemental damage stacks on their lightning spells so load up on the other resistances too.

I can personally attest that your comments about Cold Enchanted Souls is correct -- even with Lightening Resist / Absorb stacked to the heavens, those things hurt! Like, I have had Javazons with TGods and 85%+ Lightening Resist / 70%+ Cold Resist, almost taken out in one shot by those damn things. A pack of them with a few Champion Souls or Souls with Conviction :shocked:, is a very, very scary set of monsters to face, even with BO.

What's odd about it is that I have never taken the same kind of damage from Black Souls just with other elemental modifiers like Spectral Hit, Fire Enchanted, etc.; but when they have Cold Enchanted, for some reason that I can't fathom, you seem to get a double or triple whammy out of it, and of course it slows you down so you're a good candidate for another two or three shots before you can duck around a corner and chill out.

The Frost Nova that serves as their parting shot when you finally do kill them can also be a nasty surprise, if you have had your life bulb degraded while chipping away at these things.

Anyway, sorry about your loss... good luck with the next pasty white guy

To S&E or not S&E, that is the question! You wouldn't have gotten to loot if you had S&E'd and you had died anyway, that's for sure. Of course sometimes when you lag you die & get disconnected so it's all moot in that case. But at least you got loot, and that always softens the sting of a lost character, that's for sure.

The best part was teleporting my sorc around without a shield. I finally set her down in group of dolls and sent off her last Frozen Orb.

It's certainly always been fun to break ****, though. So... why not? :thumbup:

Cause of demise: Decided to do some baalruns on my own. On the third run i was facing dolls coupled with hell witches. Was amped and i saw my merc hitting two dolls, one of which i was standing close to, thought i would survive the explosion so i just throwed a LF at them. Big mistake. 4-5 other dolls runned into me at the same time as i throwed the LF. They all popped at the same time so i had no time to react.
Since i won't have much time to play the following weeks i'm not sure if i'll continue to play before the reset.

Sorry to hear about that; sounds like he was Fire Enchanted (which is bugged damage in Nightmare, one-hit deeds to almost any character :shocked:, no matter how much Fire Resist / life it has). Make sure to take on any FE monsters with ranged attacks, never go toe to toe with them in Nightmare mode.

BTW, I searched for you on US East, as I have a lot of Non-Ladder characters in Hardcore, maybe if I had been there this wouldn't have happened.

Cause of demise: Had been doing baal runs for days and had just saved up enough pgems to get some decent equipment for my first start on HC ladder. I thought it was relatively safe to run with 50ish resists and burst of speed on to speed up the baal runs. Been doing it for a while and didn't have a problem. Ran up into the throne of destruction and died with 800 health gone in the blink of an eye. Saw 3 lightnings and a two of those cows with axes on my corpse.

Think ima gonna give up hardcore for now.

Alright, I've lost hope in playing HC mode on Bnet. I simply joined a norm game, a level 88 Pally hostiled me and I died from what I'm guessing was Holy Fire right beside my stash. I never left town, and took about 2 steps before I died.

What the hell happened? Hacks?

Almost certainly a cheat or hack of some kind... but are you sure it happened when you were right next to the stash, with no clear line of sight to where you were standing from outside the Rogue Encampment?

The reason why I ask this is, there are a number of well-known cheats involving a decked-out Act 1 Mercenary firing from outside town but still hitting and killing unsuspecting Hardcore players inside the "safe" area. However, if what you wrote in the obit is exactly correct, we may be looking at something entirely new and completely impossible to compensate for, courtesy of the griefers, hackers and cheaters who have now completely ruined Hardcore mode on public Battle.Net.

N.B. -- Apparently in earlier versions of Diablo (1.07 if memory serves right), there was some kind of stupid hack where if you dropped your character's Dexterity score below "zero", an integer wrap-around bug occurred in the game code and you got ridiculous things like Paladins with Holy Fire auras doing 65,535 points of Fire damage per pulse. But my understanding was that this was fixed in either 1.08 or 1.09... from the description above, it unfortunately looks like the cheaters may have found another way to hack the same end result.

What I can't figure out is how they then engineered the ability to "Hostile" someone when both the aggressor and the victim are far within the (supposed) "safe zone" of a town. :steam:

All of this just goes to show two things :

(1.) Public Hardcore D2 games on Battle.Net are even more of a futile waste of time than they ever have been, since the advent of TPPK; and

(2.) Here we have yet <sigh> another reason why Blizzard needs to get rid of "non-consensual hostility" in the Diablo series of games, period.

As long as this game mechanic is enabled, it will be endlessly exploited by juvenile griefers to ruin the game for everyone else via the kind of cheat that you were apparently victimized by. There is simply no possible way for Blizzard to plug all the potential software exploits that could leverage "non-consensual hostility" to achieve the same kind of result that killed your Necromancer. It bewilders me why some people can't understand that this is just a fact, like it or not.

Anyway, only a level 18... could have been worse. I'd suggest you join a Banana game so you don't get ganked this way again.

Was doing a few runs with some gaussers and I did the tele duties with this barb who was kitted (testing high end gear)
Just done a game where I ran into conviction, might and fant in the throne room and managed to clear with snakes and knights

This game I tele in to the top right corner next to baal to find 3 champion horodrim guys (they raise skellies from act 2) Forgot the names its late :P
Did not think much of it to be honest quieter than the last few runs.

I am not amped or anything no auras are visible and I have my BO - life is over 5k - switch weapons (from tele to eBOTD - SShield) just as i am surrounded and suddenly find myself with 15% life a fraction of a second later deeds - no chance of fat purple - I was shocked to see anything even make a dent in this top end gear- nigma, sol'd arreats etc etc

They (with me now dead) skuttle off at light speed to the left side of the screen (no auras showing still)
Got looted which was good - but the items that got lent to me COH (merc) nice skillers and 20 lifers are all gone - demonlimb,Bk ring etc etc

I can only assume that they got perfect rolls against me

Ahh well roll on 1.13

That's a real kicker dude, sorry to hear that, I knew I should have played d2after band practise instead of pub, then Becky, or that might not have happened in the alternate timeline!

So, this is a new problem - so far Mobipocket files both DRM and not-DRM on my iLiad have been working just fine. But, today I opened a Mobipocket file Ive been reading, and it opened on the first page, and not on the last page read. Ive tried it a few more times, and this happened everytime.
I was wondering if anybody had the same problem, and if so, how it was solved?

p.s. This mobipocket file was created from pdf file in Mobipocket Desktop Reader.

Got really lucky and got Uber Diablo to spawn in my priv game! Was close battle but I obtained a 17/20/9 Anni and was really happy about it. Then I died in the next game on a Hell Andy run since I didn't drink my full rejuv. fast enough. So angry at myself!

Back to level 1 with nothing ... :thumbup:

That really suxx man, "ah feel your pain", as suffering through the terrors of being a solo Paladin in D2 Hardcore Hell is a favorite pastime of mine (I guess I'm a masochist)... but what actually killed you? I mean, if you were able to kill Pandemonium D, you must have been able to take some pretty substantial hits, right? Maybe low poison resist? (That's never a good idea around Andy.)

Don't get me wrong, but I think it's good that one can die even with that kind of equipment in a normal gameplay situation, without lag, etc. :)

A month after the reset, dying seems a bit too hard sometimes.

Not to mention that losing no equipment upon death effectively removes the only real penalty in hardcore because you can level to 80+ in 1-2 days of dedicated playing. It's the equipment that is most valuable until the 85+ levels where leveling speed noticeably drops off (for me anyway).

Hello all, just had my first HC death. Had a level 18 hammerdin, then a level 12 assasin joined the game, and declared hostile to all.

I met him at the arcane sanctuary WP , he was following me, I tried to run around him and kill him, he looked harmless, only level 12, then he killed me in 1 hit. GG to the assasin :)

Good thing I did not have anything to lose, this was just my second HC char (after my level 32 barbarian - still alive), now I know why 5 people left the game when he declared hostile. Only me and 2 others remained

Remade the character, died again at level 19, - entered a portal in the middle of the flame throwing demons near diablo. Was in alt-tab, someone was boosting, then I look back see a portal - enter :)

Today I lost Guardian Tomstone, a level 87 Elemental Templar, to a pker soso (Get-Good) in a Baal run. That is a fitting ending for such a wreckless fighter. He had a few scares already, when he saw his health bowl almost empty, once in the Flayer Dungeon, and a few days later in the Chaos Sanctuary. But he kept facing the dangers ahead and eventually defeated Baal, a feat none of my HC chars ever managed to accomplish before. So it is with pride and no regrets that I salute that great warrior.

The build was really fun to play. Certainly not the most powerful around (2500 Zeal dmg, and 4000 FoH), but maybe the most versatile I ever used, with his ability to inflict both physical and elemental damage in melee, and magical damage as a caster. I just loved it.

Regarding the reasons of his death, I believe I was getting too complacent. I haven't seen much pkers in public games, so I was not paying much attention anymore, even chatting with friends while participating in public Baalruns. I did not even noticed I had been hostiled (the sound was off...), and he was dead before I even realized something unusual was going on. That will teach me. :yes:
