Diablo 1

Hey guys,

In honor of the D3 annoucement, I'd like to take a nostalgic trip through Diablo 1... problem is, I can't get it to work. I run windows XP, and it always crashes while loading the town the first time.

I've tried running it in compatibilty mode for 95 and 98, but then it claims the CD is not in the drive and won't even start.

Anyone have any ideas? Or will I never play this again...

dual-boot setup and install Win98?

i gave up running old games like Diablo II a long time ago. no 3D, no widescreen, no play.

I can't get d1 to run at all, the DX libraries it used are apparently completely gone from dx10. :/

I got it to work fine, just killed the Butcher :D . Try running in 256 colors, and not compatibility mode.

I did the same.. for about 3 minutes.

I ran it in Ubuntu (a GNU/Linux distro) through Wine... needless to say it had some issues with the menu (it's.. a big issue wine is facing atm with a few programs, not D2 though), but the game itself ran ok...

But then I got bored. Wow, that game really needs the ability to RUN!

Oh and I duped my sword in the first minute or so, lol.
