View Full Version : Did you see?! Gameplay Video looks sweet
Did you guys see the gameplay video of the 2 chars against the HUGE monster and then when it went down about 150 skeletons rose up from the dead and charged in on our two characters?
The graphics look sick (in a good way) already, and the gameplay mechanics is going to be awesome too!!!!!
One little video and I already cant frieken wait

Yes, the only thing I didn't like about it was the bodies and rubble disappearing. D2 is actually superior in that regard because the bodies stay on the ground for a long time. I guess this rules out using bodies in D3 for certain spells.
I'm very pleased with the D3 animation. D2 was pretty bad.
Excellent! I am just... lol :D
Can't wait to play it!

Hi,
I just saw the gameplay video, was fantastic!
Can't wait to get my hands on d3, hehe.
SS
Yes it looks great, just hope this isent years away from completion.
Elixirs seem to be back. When the Barbarian smashes up a room for the hell of it, one of the book shelves drops "Elixir of Vitality 1".

Is that a Diablo 1 thing? Please explain!
Yeah, in Diablo 1 you could buy or find Elixirs, which raised a stat point, permanently, by 1. Allowed you to max out your stats earlier.
Other stuff I noticed:
Chipped Star Topaz. Gems are back!
"Ancient Medallion" (right before he meets Deckard Pain)? White item Jewelry? There was a purple Amulet, I get that, but what is the point of white item jewelry? The item no longer needs to be colored to be useful? So what purpose does non-magical jewelry serve?
Also, I saw a "Small Bag". WoW styled inventory system? The inventory tetris seems gone.
There were also "Minor Power Rune", "Minor Lethality Rune". Looks like the old rune system was either replaced or added too with generic effect runes rather than cool name runes.
Also, "Elixir of Willpower 1". Hopefully they fixed the fact that energy was a worthless attribute, at least the name change signifies it does more than mana now.
I know everyone wet themselves when the boss picked up a barbarian and bit his torso off, but bosses will have more then 1 fatality like that. He killed the female witchdoctor by picking her up, breathing fire on her, and them slamming her into the ground.
I really hope it's not just bosses. The gore and death animations for monsters looks amazing, hopefully the player library is just as varied and available to your average monsters as well as PvP, not just bosses.
-Other cool stuff distinguishable on the high res video:
*The mana orb now has stuff flowing in it. Looks pretty cool.
*Item Slots: I see Head, Amulet, Body, Belt, 2 Rings, 2 Weapons, Shoulders, Pants, Boots, Gloves.
*Weird Symbol between the Weapon Slots. New Horadric Cube? It looks like a yellow sphere with circles and lines engraved on it.
*The WoW Bag system is definitely in. Or atleast a variant off. You can see bag slots in the bottom right corner of the inventory screen. It seems bag size also matters - The barbarian only has slightly more than a row of slots avaivable.
*Staffs and Identify Scrolls are definitely back. Axes, swords, and maces are weapons we can use.
*Did I mention pants? I still can't get over that I will be able to humiliate people by killing them with a Liberated from the Tyranny Of Pants Barbarian.
Meh I feel a bit disappointed
I mean, it was obvious they were making it, it was likely that it was going to be a co-op game and not an MMO, and what do we get? Something that looks like a Mythos / WoW crossover. I was expecting that, just praying it wasn't going to be.
I was pretty excited when I first saw it, but by the time they showed the inventory system my heart had sunk. A 1-space axe doesn't look bada** because it's only taking up 1 space. Cartoon axes don't look bada** in general. It's a stupid nitpick but I can't help but be really annoyed by it. I hate the art-style, I hope I'll like the game in spite of that.
Seriously =// the art in Diablo II was so amazing, and now we get 1-space cartoon axe.
i wonder if the monster sistem is (like we see in the curent gameplay movies) lots of monsters that are quite easy to kill (most of them in 1 hit).
The inventory tetris was fairly aggravating. I, for one, am glad it's gone. Also frees up the art guys from having to make a picture for every iterations of every weapon.
As for the monster system, well, I think it will be difficulty dependent, but they said they wanted your character to feel like an engine of destruction. Having it look like every monster you encounter is an equal that puts up a worthy fight takes away from the slaughterfest.
Plus, keep in mind, this is alpha. For all we know, they gave him a pair of BotD Ethereal Zerkers equivalents in terms of power. Plus he was barely hurt by his enemies and had infinite mana. The combat could be a lot more strategic and dangerous then that, where you actually have to avoid attacks and think instead of just clicking away.
Come on =/
A 1 square cartoon axe looks stupid compared to a 6 square Hellslayer

What if each item had a weight, and your str, level, and/or class determins how much weight your chr can hold. Maybe they'll do it that way, which is a lot less time consuming as the inventory tetris of D2 mentioned by konfeta.
Can someone explain how the bag system in WoW works for those of us who have never played it?
This isn't a DnD styled simulation, this is an Action-RPG. Which means that if something unrelated to the battle at hand is forcing you to stop the killing, it's poor design.
Bags and 1 slot 1 item, no weight system makes sense to me. The only thing you have to worry about in terms of managing your inventory is how much space you have there. No need to consider things like weight, size, placement. You see an item you like? Click it and move on. If you need to think about picking up some loot in an genre that is about picking up kewl items as you mow down armies, there is something wrong.

But with tetris gone, I'm guessing this is the end of charms.
And did anyone notice, how did the witch doctor regain mana. Did it just regenerate itself extra fast for skill-showing-off purposes or was there some user-input? Did the red balls regenerate mana? I don't remember the dev panel saying anything about the mana system, which might mean it's still being developed.
They clearly modified the game play to allow non-stop skill spam show off. I don't think the mana orbs barely even moved.
I would imagine that Soulhunter move he has steals mana though. It looked blue and mana related!
Also, why would charms be gone? I see zero reason for charms having a tetris inventory as a requirement.
I doubt charms will be gone, and from almost ALL of the blizz gameplay videos, they make their chars look uber to show off how cool the gameplay looks.
The WoW bag system is you have 5 bag slots and each bag you can have has a diff number of slots with endgame bags having 22 or something if i remember correctly. Anyway every single item in the game that you could own or pick up takes up exactly 1 bag spot no more no less, but some you can have multiple items in like 5 health pots = 1 bag spot. It works and it isnt a big deal if D3 goes this route IMHO
Charms and Tomes HAVE to be back into play regardless of how they do it :)

Ah no, I hope that charms are gone for good! hated those things.
Speaking about the item art in the inventory, why would you want to see it in your inventory when you can zoom in your character see him/her wielding it? Its pointless to force artists to make a 2D art when the 3D is just ready.

I know the vid's been posted to youtube, but is there a link somewhere for a download? I'd like to have it for my own personal viewing without having to deal with buffers and whatnot.
BTW, Zombie Wall FTW!! That was some hilarious stuff. Bone wall? *pshh* Ain't got nuttin!

The official site has a download, but it's really, really slow for me (like 8-9 hours ETA for an 800MB file)... If you find another site, let me know.

First post in the forums.
Good stuff here. Can't wait to get my hand on the finished product. Lots of changes can be made between now and its release.
See you on battle.net

I noticed a bit of a change in elemental attacks. When the Witch Doctor was casting his locusts, they were described as doing "disease" (not poison) damage. Similarly the barbarian's lightning damage stunned his opponents.
Also, there seems to be a new armour type - pauldrons (armour to go on the shoulders). This would fit with Diablo II adding gloves and boots when it came out I guess.
Go to http://www.gamershell.com/ to get the trailers. Very fast download. Also it seems to me that with all the abilities they had the characters had to be higher lvl. Which would explain why it was so damn easy.
