Well I just redid all of my D2 installations. I have had some problems though. I play 3 versions, 1.09 Classic, 1.10s LOD, and 1.12 LOD. I installed the classic first, updated it, and moved it to a folder "Diablo II Classic 1.09". Then did the same with 1.10s and 1.12, each in their own folders respectively. Then I made separate shortcuts to each of the respective .exe files. Here are the problems I have encountered.

1. I can't find my save files. I recopied them into the respective diablo folders and they are there but the game doesn't pick them up. I just tried making a character in my 1.10s but it saves it to the 1.09 saves folder, even though it finds it in 1.10s .

2. When I install RWM/RRM into my 1.12 folder, it loads classic 1.12. I follow all of the instructions but it doesn't load the expansion. (Or at least that is the splash screen it starts with). I am thinking these first 2 questions would be solved by just not having the path as C:program files\Diablo LOD 1.12\Diablo II and just having the C:Program Files\Diablo 2.

3. I have tried installing the no CD function and copied the D2xMusic.mpq, but it still doesn't work. Is there other files I need?

Thanks, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update: Sorry, too late to edit. Problem one and two are solved, but now my 1.09 Classic doesn't work at all. I'll click on the shortcut and/or the icon in my install folder, and the disc just thinks for a bit then stops. No error messages or anything.

Problem 3 still exists as well.

Edit: Deleted 1.09 and reinstalled, but now 1.12 doesn't work (well it works like it did last time, with it going into classic and reading files from the 1.09 save folder) Grrrrr.

I am at work so the exact files names I can't remember, but when i did it myself I copied all the .mpq's from the CD to the install directory. There are about 4 of them and afterwhich the game runs fine without the CD.

Maybe use TrenShadow's Version switcher? linked from SPF Faq somwhere.

The game will allways use the save folder which is stored somewhere in registry after your last install, so you need to change that value. TrenShadow version switcher enables you to run the different versions from different folders with it's own save folder with one button click.

BTW, you can still play classic characters with LOD, just uncheck expansion checkbox when creating new character.
