If everyone and their brother start making these giveaway threads I'll probably put a stop to it. I'm not sure anybody even plays much HC non-ladder... almost never see anything being traded non-ladder, that's for sure.

Noone really does, hence why a reset is something I didn't want without a patch. In SC, I could have just played Non-Ladder, but in HC, its pointless.
I can't even keep my characters for Nostalgia because I want the names.

Same sentiments here. I'm feeling pretty lukewarm about a ladder reset. I don't run the ladder so that part of it means nothing. Last time I quit playing was waiting on a ladder reset to happen. Seems like I remember it being a month or something like that before it actually happened, I started playing something else and never made it back to D2 (well, until about 4 yrs later lol).

See the thing to me is, I too don't run the ladder. I cannot justify spending all my time leveling one character to 99, when it would make me feel like I wasted my time. I'd rather have 8 ~90 characters then 1 99. Bragging rights? Yeah right, if anything I think less of someone for it.
So in the end, with no patch, hack fix, etc, you just are going to have all the bots on top anyways, so its pointless. You want to start from scratch? Sell/delete every char you have, or do something like a CTA.
TBH, I'm quite pissed off because its just like they are just reseting the ladder half-assed. I'll still probably remake everything, but right now, it sucks.
Either that or make Non-Ladder like Ladder drops and runeword wise. Seriously, why not? Incentive to play ladder my, you know. I don't wanna compete with bots.
/highjack.
well okay, back on topic, i want a free enigma if someone has (east). i want to try the teledin thingy.
although, i am really going to trim down my playtime and maybe quit entirely.
Sorry Zappa - you can stop this thread.
(Ilikestuff - some norwegian guy offered me real life cash for HC items, so I'm not sure if the giveaway are gonna happen. :) )

You got a point there pardner. I think the reason why people (at least the ones with whom I'm familiar, namely on Hardcore US East Ladder) were so keen for LSIII to end, was simply because it had gone on so abnormally long beforehand. I had sincerely hoped that LSIV would not last more than about a year -- so in that respect the impending reset is a good thing, not a bad thing -- but that Blizzard would also, at the same time, implement a patch to cut out crap like TPPK, item duping, Farcast and the other cheat nonsense that has largely ruined public play.
There are also a whole bunch of other very modest improvements that have been suggested in various forums that could substantially improve play; just to name one, how about, when a Unique item gets dropped, there should be a small % chance (higher in Nightmare or Hell modes) that its class gets upgraded by one level, so, for example, you could get a Butcher's Pupil (Exceptional Cleaver) that would be "auto-upgraded" to the Elite version of the weapon (Small Crescent), if you got very lucky. Changes like this wouldn't take more than a couple of lines of code and would make the game more variable and interesting to play... if Blizzard would get off their butts and spend the time to do it.
Unfortunately it looks like they are simply turning Diablo into "cash cow mode", with yearly Ladder resets, lots of incremental software license sale revenue (costs have now almost all been amortized) and zero additional work on their part. Lovely business model, lousy play model.
Honestly, if they're not willing to fix the problems, they should just Open Source the whole bloody thing, then somebody would solve the problems. They'd still get the sales revenues from all the copies on the shelves at Best Buy and Wal-Mart, we'd get a game that keeps up with the cheaters, everybody wins. But then I'm an optimist... not.
May see you on the new Ladder... then again may not,

i would think they would fix some of the existing bugs as a matter of programmer's pride, like the inferno bug. it has been around for 4 years or (if not since the beginning). I would hesitate to hire a D2 programmer knowing that he did not even attempt some kind of workaround for this bug.

Programmers don't decide which bugs get fixed and which don't, that's the guys holding the purse strings that make those kind of decisions. That's totally on Blizzard's management.

Correct (I work in software development).
Programmers, unless they own the project, have zero say in what goes in or out of a release.
that must be really frustrating to be directed to release a flawed product :/
only in the software industry is this acceptable...
