A battle.net (http://www.battle.net/index.shtml#Diablo%20II%20Ladder%20Reset) CALL TO ARMS.

Diablo II Ladder Reset

Drysc on June 9th, 2008
We will be performing a Diablo II ladder reset on June 17 beginning at approximately 9:00 a.m. PDT. The reset is anticipated to require approximately six hours of downtime to complete, and during that time all Diablo II Battle.net realms will be unavailable for play. When the reset occurs all existing ladder characters will be moved to non-ladder. This provides a fresh start and new competition for leveling supremacy on the ladder realm.

Consider this the mid-June CTA (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?p=5795162#post5795162). East Hardcore Ladder.

I've got 7 slots, D2/LOD .iso files, 6 sets of cd-keys, a Ventrilo server, and a 24-pack of beer. Who shall join me?

In case you've forgotten, this is how much fun we had the first time (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=571801).

Resetting on a Tuesday? Lame. I wish I had the sort of time to do this, especially on a weekday, but I dont. It's probably for the best though, because having not played in ages, I'd probably die some silly death in normal somewhere, and if I did manage to survive, I'd have to keep playing D2 :coffee:

Good luck on the ladder run!

I'll do it. I can easily get the days off, so count me in. I'll take the Summoner/Orber, which ever.

Although, I don't know quite what I will do afterwards, I don't know if I want to start over again unless they come out with a patch.

The ladder reseting is really just a mean fricken tease to me......

I have not touched DII for two years.... but that is smack bam in the middle of my vacation, and honestly, really, honestly, my wife and her mother and her sis will be off the 18th, the entire day... temptation, temptation.... nothing, I repeat nothing beats massacring people on battle net the first two days of a ladder run, when no-one has high level chars, arms, equipment or stuff. The urge to kill is so great...

Naming convention: CTA-Somethingorother
I'd pick something you'd want to be remembered by. Don't forget, we'll be visible by every ladder player on D2. With this setup, nobody is obsolete/boring/useless. Everyone is integral. Except maybe a Druid.

I've figured it out. It's so simple; I came up with it last year.

8) BO + anything fast-hitting Barbarian (Frenzy is likely > Whirlwind)
7) Zeal Avenger: Conviction Paladin using Zeal as primary attack
6) 20 Death Sentry assassin (Trappers are tops, as Sha-ZAM proved)
5) Light Fury Amazon with a bunch in MS or Strafe
4) Full-out summoner Necromancer with decent LR
3) Druid (?) for the sake of character completion, or Hammerdin or another MS/Javazon (best)
2) Orb/TK or weak Blizz/TK

...and finally, the one build that cements the whole team together and makes every character and build here useful and "efficient" at killing.

1) 20 Static Field | 1 Frost Nova | Enchantress

The first Stealth, Spirit, Carin Shard, Magefist, FCR itams and all sapphire-type gems will go to this character, who will spam FN/SF through Normal and Nightmare, making them a joke. By early nightmare (level 50ish = 49 skill points + 5 from quests), this character will have a decent enchant, meaning it kicks in just as character killspeed starts slowing down just a tad (shouldn't matter anyway as every enemy is getting slivered).

We'll likely finish normal in well under 2 hours.

With the Static Field / Enchantress, I guarantee we'll be #1-8 on the ladder.

Team Gillian*
- Summoner Necromancer
- Static Field Enchantress
- Light Fury Amazon + MS/Strafe
- Barbarian (BO + any... DS > Frenzy in terms of safety)

Gillian's 25, more experienced, and a terrible workaholic. She's super-comfortable with her witty self and kinda crazy: she's more suited to wide-open spaces and traveling (she's toured Southeast Asia ...but missed Malaysia).

Team Tara*
- Orb/TK
- ZealVenger
- DS Assassin
- Druid (?) / Hammerdin / Javazon

Tara's 19 (?), super friendly, and seems pretty easy. She thinks I'm crazy-hilarious. She's perky with a tight little body (read: 10 year old boy butt), thus well suited for being pounded into small spaces, i.e. Maggot Lair. Dave boinked her, so I'm not a super big fan... but whatever. Fun's fun.

*Yes, teams are named after hot waitresses that work at the same bar.

Game Progression (Normal)

Act 1
- All vs. Den
- Tara vs. Raven
- Gillian vs. Stony
- All vs. Cain
- Tara vs. Tower
- Gillian vs. Cloister
- all vs. Butcher, Andariel

Act 2
- Tara vs. Rhadament
- Gillian vs. Cube
- Tara vs. Maggots
- Gillian vs. Vipers
- All vs. Arcane
- Tara/Gillian vs. alternating Tombs
- All vs. Duriel

Act 3
- Tara vs. Spider
- Gillian vs. Flayer hunt
- Tara vs. Kurast hunt
- Gillian vs. Sewers
- Teams converge vs. A3 - gets too dangerous for weaker characters

Act 4
- Killall

Act 5
- ALL Ral Ort Tal runes are saved up and cubed to make a Sol rune
- Gillian vs. Anya
- Tara vs. Ancients hunt
- All vs. Ancients
- Gillian gets Baal Quest
- Tara kills first-drop bug Baals until Gillian's ready for Nightmare

Nightmare
- Gillian scours Nightmare for a 4 socket polearm; once found, back to Normal Baals until Tara's equipped for Nightmare

- Forges done 8x with unparty

Hell
- Forges done 8x with unparty

SO WHO'S IN AGAIN?

Hahaha, the last ladder reset happened, when I was on honeymoon. When I came back and checked prizes for torches and organ sets, I went like "WTF, two weeks out of country and prizes explode like mad". Then some of my mates told me via teamspeak, that there was a reset and I had a horrible lot to do to catch up.

[Edit] I just relazied, that I finished my sorc three days ago, just to have to build her again. *sigh*

So we'd have one tele in the group correct? I mean I assume the Static/FNova CAN tele, but do we want her to in hell? This would put group two as having the Frenzy barb as their runner correct?

The Orb/TK would handle the teleporting. Once we are in NM and Hell, we will pretty much stick together, or the Orb/TK will be porting most of the way.

And just like I said:
I'll do it. I can easily get the days off, so count me in. I'll take the Summoner/Orber, which ever.

I'll go ahead and take the Orb/TK. I proved myself last time, and tbh, we need someone who we know can handle the job since come NM and even moreso Hell, the Orb/TK is the most important build for speed. We wouldn't want to lose her due to inexperience.

A few things:

We will be going to Hell Baal, but how much longer after that? Just want to know if I should take Tuesday off to sleep first, or just leave early to be home in time.

Everyone should get a mic. Since you have the Ventrillo server up, there will be no reason why to not use that for convenience.

Don't anyone flake, that sucks.

I personally think the screenkiller enchantress is going to be the funniest character -- and will be awesome as a utility character for someone who has multiple cd keys. Haha.

Experience counts, but I've a feeling it'll be oldest-come-oldest-serve. Lurkers/newer folks/randoms, unfortunately, are not in the "auto in" club :<

Tai: Enchantress will likely be able to teleport, but won't.

You're more than welcome to bring your dinky keyboard over to my place - I run on a 8gb connection and can hook up the server with a monitor to play D2.

Whoever ends up playing on this team -needs- to want to commit, and must commit. If you've the slightest 'flake vibe' about doing a 15 hour run for spots on the ladder... stay the hell away, else you'll end up pissing off a good group of people and living the rest of your days in shame :<

Pretty much every character ends up being useful/awesome here.

8) Barbarian = portable CTA
7) Zeal Avenger = clone/uber runner
6) Assassin = bragging rights/Baaler
5) LF/MS Amazon = pit runner
4) Summoner = supertank(TM)
3) Hammerdin or MS/Javazon (best) or maybe even Blizz/TK = MFer
2) Orb/TK = best MFer
1) 20 SF Enchantress = ...given!

Hi guys,

I'd love to join you on this run but my personal life is extremely busy these days, I am in the middle of intensive studying for a computer security certification exam which is going to take up 100% of my weekend time for all of June.

Also I have to tell you that largely due to the frustrating persistence of TPPK, and Blizzard's stupid refusal to put an end to it once and for all, my wife and I are becoming somewhat disillusioned about what is otherwise a fun game. TPPK just takes all the enjoyment out of Hardcore Diablo, especially for a group of intermittent gamers such as we are (we can't really commit to pre-arranged times and dates for adventure sessions on a regular basis because of our time-compressed personal lives... but I digress...), because it ends up being "we always have a maximum of 2 human players in our party".

This Ladder season I managed to get a Lightening Trapper Assassin to Level 91, thanks to hundreds -- and I DO mean "hundreds" -- of MF'ing runs, past Level 90. I suppose that's an accomplishment of sorts, but it becomes very monotonous after (say) the 200th Pits and Tunnels run. Highest rune we found was a Mal, which as luck would have it dropped very early in the Ladder, there's been nothing close since. Playing D2 would be more fun with a large party, but party with people we don't know? Sorry. We have a young daughter who also plays Diablo and we don't want her to get hurt by ignorant little cyber-bullies with TPPK.

Oh well. Maybe we'll create a couple of characters for the new Ladder... we'll see.

Now if we can just figure out what to do with the 32 accounts of mules... :p

Cheers and good luck on your ladder run

Yes, I actually have a thread up and running to attempt to get info on everyone so we can get as many teams going as possible. I'm hoping people will take the information from the thread and use it to track down party members for their runs.

What about times, since not everyone is in the same time zone and people have work/school, wives who don't understand D2, dog walks, ect. Is there a time that we should all meet in the channel? Like most games, the estimated down times are usually a bit longer than they estimate...so do we have people checking the entire time? As well, what about stragglers like me? I have to help a friend of mine move that afternoon but after that, I'll be on all night pretty much. I'm thinking probably about 7pm...

I would assume, since the ladder is suppose to begin ~3 p.m. PST, that we should all be there no later then 2:30, since it may be done early. If anything, just keep Ventrillo on and listen for the "omgz, teh ladderz haz been resetsorz" yells.

Let me know about them walks Bob. I'd be grateful. It would be awesome to do at the end once we can all handle it. Although getting enough different games on the same server could be hard, but if we all make the effort, we can all keep making games till we all have one.

Bob,

This is a ladder run... not a regular CTA, else I wouldn't mind waiting. We're rushing to be #1-8. Can't wait an hour, and you're putting forward way too much uncertainty - i.e. "have to steal neighbors internet and play at friend's house and assemble parts" ??

Also, I'm pretty much expecting everyone that plays in the Gillian/Tara team to be on my Ventrilo server; communicating quickly using the mics and tossing out warnings i.e. "FIRE ENCHANTED HOLY GUACAMOLE" etc -- is meant to reduce typing time.

Even if folks don't have a microphone, it's expected that everyone will be logged in and listening. To me. Sing. All frigging day long.

DivineRight,

If someone's wife doesn't understand D2 or they need to walk the dog or they have to blah blah blah, I just flat out don't care; I don't want them in the team I'm in. This is a ladder rush group; the point is to race to #1 and stay there for as long as we can.

Allow me to reiterate.

This is for serious addicts, control freaks, and folks who can actually commit and follow through. This is not for people who really really really want to, but might not be able to, for magical reasons beyond their control. This is not for people who have real lives and responsibilities (that they can't shuffle around a 15 hour chunk of time) and have no staying power. This isn't for someone who'll be beaten up by their sister/mother/wife if they play. I'm not sorry; I have no respect for anyone who signs up with a bleeding heart but ends up ditching the group mid-way / showing up late / not showing up at all: they're worthless flakes who selfishly stole spots from someone who wouldn't have ruined the rest of the group's experience.

A word of friendly advice to you there, son.

Get married, then try that out on your wife, around bedtime. ("Deaarr, it's laaate, when are you cominggg to beddd?!?!?!")

I was first a D&D addict (48 hour straight sessions! yeahh!). Then I was a computer games addict (DOOM until you're so disoriented from the 16 color palette that you're about to upchuck! yeahh!).

Then I got married, and I got on the wagon, I saw the light, I got "reformed".

Enchant will really help the skellys to get a nice net output damage. The convic will help this signif. The lower resist will make them even more badass and at this point skelly mages will do a nice net damage too. Consider a lvl 11+ fanata to reach Both skelly mages (because fanata increases their cast rate) and reg skelly's breakpoints. Imo This would increase your DPS lots.

I think I remember something about the first one someone/s were using MH, because in the second one, a friendly reminder was given that if you did, to shut it off and/or not mention it because the problems it caused in the first one.

I don't remember item snatching happening in the one I did, everything went to who it should, and it wasn't a problem. It shouldn't happen this time seeing as how we should all be mature enough to realize that if a Vipermagi for instance drops, that it goes to whoever uses it best, not you just because you snatched it fast.

If, IF, for some reason something like that does happen, then we will be playing one player short I would guess. Hence why its important the more important character builds be in the hands of people we can count on. We could do without say the Zon or Sin maybe, but the porting Sorc, not so much without a vast slow down.

If I remember correctly, we just kind of winged the groups when the reset hit. It was people from the forums, op xbananax, acquaintences of those people, and random people who showed up in the channel around that time. I think we started with two groups (or one main group and some people playing as part of others) and we slowly merged into one. I don't think the people who were grabby were forum or xbananax regulars, and I'm pretty sure they dropped out (or fell behind) early to mid-nightmare.

Anyway... I know what it takes to do a ladder run, and right now, I couldn't do it.

This thread is catching attention at a forum I cannot name that isnt jsp.

"Is this for real? I mean, I've never bothered to bot, but the idea of a bunch of nerds spending a week straight doing nothing but playing Diablo II (including being forced to use up two sick days in the process to keep up, assuming they have jobs) to "beat" botters makes me kinda wanna."

I urge you, "bunch of nerds", to give them hell!

A Week straight? I only signed on for 5 days straight!

I can guess which forum it is, but it shall remain nameless. If I am right, they aren't the most legit place either.

See, this is why, no offense meant, but why old schoolers and long time posters are put first when choosing the team. The last thing we want is some prick to come in, and spoil the fun.

Also, I am not signing up to "beat botters". I just know its an awesome fun day I am in store for. I've been wanting to do another ladder reset or not, it just so happens the reset is happening.

And I do my own work schedule, so ha, no days lost.

What kind of moron thinks we're doing this for a week? I'm just doing this for the first day or so of the initial ladder rush. Anyone who doesn't get bored of characters past level 85-87ish is a total mystery to me. Once you've reached the plateau of endless repetition, it's time to get off the hill, no?

Please. Commenting on other people's lives over anonymous forums on the intarweb is as entertaining and thought provoking as monkeys flinging feces at each other.

I'm likely quitting (again) after the reset anyhow.

Forced to use sick days? They're not transferable, you have a solid # allocated, and this is as good a reason to use 'em as any. Besides, the allocated sick-day concept without provisioned health insurance is a fundamental violation of human rights; any firm that even thought about denying living standards to someone in the internet-enabled world would crumple quicker than the aforementioned ghost-quoted moron could stuff the crap they're spewing back into their fat, handlebar-moustache-adorned face(s).

I've no idea what forum you're referring to. Someone tell me!

Oh, and to borrow from JSP, "Go slit", phantom-poster.

Imo anyone who genuinely thinks that calling someone a nerd over the INTERNET is a credible insult is missing a chromosome or 2.

From my understanding there are no barbarian bots, if I did want to try and make it to the top and stay there.

And yes, it's one day, not a week. It's fun-- just as fun as all the nerdy things those forum posters do.

I would be interested although I'm not very experienced in Hardcore play I would like to give it a chance this time around. I have ventrilo, a mic and such so hopefully you all will let me join. Ideally I would like to play a trapper, however I'll play whatever is needed (I would prefer not the chanter, even though I know it can't be too difficult I just have never played one aside from a Zealsorc which is a bit different). Also if the group is full or I'm not selected just let me know it's no problem.

Unfortunately, that is a bigger deal then it seems. I think everyone on the first team knows what to do when they see that FELE NM Bartuc (Run like Hell!) but new players may not be aware, or at least not react as fast as older ones thanks to experience. I know SC players, for the most part, just go "oh lol, I died".

Don't let that stop you from playing HC though. It just takes a bit to get used to, and once you accept that you WILL die, it becomes easier to push forward.

Act 3
- Tara vs. Spider
- Gillian vs. Flayer hunt
- Tara vs. Kurast hunt
- Gillian vs. Sewers
- Teams converge vs. A3 - gets too dangerous for weaker characters

I just saw that for the first time, and laughed out load. Some of you know why, and that I can't let it go, hehe.

1.) Is it because Shaharris died in Normal act3?

2.) Or because 3 or 4 of us died in NM act 3 when it lagged?

3.) Or because hell act3 took like 2 hours once because everything was Lightning Immune and all we had left was Shaharris' Trapper frantically trying to synergize via FireBlast, my Javazon tossing points in frozen arrow so (wait for it) I could go to -35 resist all to take out gloams and a BoneNecro?

Personally I think it's number 1, but I felt the need to rant about how bad luck Act 3 has been to us on these things.

This is clearly a lie, since nobody can provide evidence to back it up.

I've already mentioned it at least to Shon and perhaps more of you, but I have work commitments and will be unable to commit to the grouping here (not that I dont want too :( . However I will be on tuesday from 630pm on and then I'm taking the 18th off so I should be of comparable level to you guys evening of the 18th on my summoner.

I wish you luck on this venture, but having played will all you guys a zillion times, I know you will easily keep ontop of the ladder at least for the first few days or more and wont actually need luck.

This season my goal is to have my main account Sara_hcl , with one of each class and the mule accounts to be fully organized. We'll see how that goes.

Sorry we won't have you with us Sara. I am trying to quit as you know, but I'll probably be on now and then looking to game if you're willing to have me and my new Javazon hanging around. I'll still be running on *Tai- so look me up. *wave*

Cheers

20 SF enchanter is a pretty good idea... I know when I tried to to focus on enchant in whicherver CTA, it sucked pretty badly... I burned too much mana per cast so I had to constantly drink mana pots, all for just a little boost, and it never felt like I was really contrbuting to anything. Plus, firewall as a backup is just a pain to use :P
