Ethereal Armor bug?

I've been seeing posts for "bugged" ethereal armors. Someone said the defense doubles when you socket the armor. Is this true for all armors? Is there a trick to it? Is it legit?

I found an ethereal Archon Plate, and used the socket quest. The defense is still the same.....

You have to use the socket cube recipe on ethereal armor for the defense to increase.

1 Tal Rune + 1 Thul Rune + 1 Perfect Topaz + Normal Body Armor = Socketed Body Armor of same type

The defense doesn't double, you get another 50% ethereal bonus. It adds another 50% onto the defense the ethereal armor already has though, so the 2 ethereal bonuses combined give a 125% bonus compared to a non-ethereal armor.
