What do "Soft Core" & "Hard Core" mean?

Softcore allows you to die ... a lot ... and continue playing. You lose xp if you die in NM and Hell, although you will regain 75% of that if you get your body back.

Hard core is ... one chance. When you die, that character cannot be played further.

I'd prob advice you to play on softcore if you're starting the game until you get a bit more experienced - then you can try hardcore if you want to.

You also lose gold by dieing - exactly 1/5th of your total amount. Only applies to SC, of course.
