Hello. This forum has been really helpful in the short time I've been a member, so just wanted to say thanks to everybody for that so far.

I have a quick noob question about increased attack speed...Say you're a barbarian, dual-wielding. As I understand it, an amulet like the Highlord's Wrath would increase attack speed for both weapons. But what if the weapon itself has increased attack speed? Does it apply only to the weapon it is on, or would it increase your overall attack speed for both weapons?

If it matters, Frenzy is the attack of choice I'm wondering about.

Thank you very much in advance!

On weapon ias only works for the weapon it is on, normally, cannot say I'm 100% on it for a frenzy barb though since I'm not a barb player. Take note though that sometimes of-weapon ias isn't as good as on-weapon ias, the barbarian skill whirlwind and druid shape shifting skills are best used with on-weapon ias.

For frenzy, the base weapon speed of both weapons is averaged. This is then modified by IAS from gear and your primary weapon, but not your secondary weapon. Your primary weapon is whichever one shows up in the barbarian's right hand. When you join a game or hit weapon switch, the primary weapon is set to the weapon on the left side of the screen. The order you equip the weapons can change this primary weapon property, but I forget if equipped first or equipped second is primary.

There is a known bug with frenzy speed when the primary weapon is the weapon on the right side of the screen. I'm forgetting the exact details of the bug, but it's something like the secondary weapon speed is subtracted from the primary weapon speed, instead of averaging them. You should be able to find more information in the Barbarian Forum.

You may not have realized, but that's not a newb question at all, actually. It's an important part of understanding weapon swing speed for Frenzy, since the skill is a little quirky and many people probably don't understand how it works.

thegiantturtle described it correctly, so basically, since weapon speed is averaged and IAS is only counted on the main weapon and not the off-hand, always put whichever weapon has the most IAS in your character's main hand. Other IAS sources are just added to the averaged weapon speed for Frenzy when determining framerate.
