How are people getting such high Defense on Ethereal armors? Does socketing them add defense?

What is a "fort"? (armor, seems like it's a shield from the context) I looked at the items pages and couldn't find anything.

Is there an accurate leveling guide somewhere? Most links and guides here seem broken or out of date. I know there's a popular trend to level to, then cows or Baal run. Can someone break it down for me? This would be for Bnet characters(ladder).

yep quite agree..playing is the easiest way to lvl...make open games and get players in same lvl(ish) as yourself...
