View Full Version : Sacrifice...?

Has anyone ever made a sacrifice build?

It is obviously a pretty risky skill to use but could be challenging/interesting, as long as you have over 8% life steal you should be all right. Actually I'm not sure, LL only applies to physical and 8% sacrifice might apply to all...

it applies to physical but there are leech penalties and you cant leech from skeletons at all

Just literally skeletons (Act 1 caves, blood raven's place ect), or anything that resembles a skeleton? (like all the random guys in act two sewers/tombs)

You take a different angle and have low physical and high elemental for your actual damage, OK you couldn't leech, and it would generally be pretty limited, but it would be possible to make a build that could kill something.

8% loss from Sacrifice is not the same as -8% leech. Sacrifice health loss is based on your max health, while leech is based on your weapon damage. You can combine Life Tap (like Exile or Dracul's) with a good damaging weapon, but really, what's the point when you have skills like Zeal (5x listed damage per use) and Smite (The ideal boss killer)?

And yes, NONE of the "guys" that look like skeletons can be leeched from. That includes Skeletons, Burning Dead, Horrors, etc.

Berg, I have always understood it to be based on weapon damage.

I was refering to TheNamelessOne's original post:

"...as long as you have over 8% life steal you should be all right."

Sacrifice health loss is based on your max health...

But what I mean is this is incorrect according to that wiki description. It is my understanding that the damage you take is 8% of the damage you inflict

(that means that my initial post is also incorrect because it is not based just on weapon damage but on the totality of your physical damage)

Thanks everyone, interesting answers though I'm now unsure of how Sacrifice actually works, (I thought I knew before but now...) I might try to make a Sacrifice build sometime but it seems like there is a reason you never really see any sacrifice builds around.

8% physical damage done to monsters is immediatly substracted from your life. Unfortunatly leech is not 100% in NM and hell (1/3 in hell?) and also a lot of monsters have lowered "drain effectivness" which reduces leech further or even nulify it (Hell Mephisto).
Also when the monster has only 20 life left and you hit it for 1000 physical damage still 80 HP will be substracted while you will leech only the percentage of 20.

Really, whats the point makin' a zealer when you can make a hammerdin with redemption?

I had a look at your martyr, nice, so there are at least some sacrifice pals or 'martyrs' out there, which kind of answers my original question, but the discussion of how sacrifice works has been really interesting too.

Thanks everyone.

Something as stupid as this should be stickied somewhere

Hey guys, don't spam this thread, actually some people have characters for running ubers, MFing and PvP and besides they have characters just for fun.

And believe me, I had fun with this character, the danger of killing yourself adds a great impact to play style. It's something different than mindless hammer spamming or zealclicking.

I would like to see Martyr's damage with something really big like Grief for example, but I guess you would have to invest a lot in his life :D
