noob pally smite question

ok this is my first pally ever since d2 came out
I was following vanquesher guide and he said max smite if using grief so I max smite and see smite dmg only being 997........

Someone told me dmg from grief doesn't show on char screen but it effects in game..... is that true?? then I guess there's no problem -_-

Another question is where should I put my rest of the skill pts on vigor to increase hammer? or holy shield?

my hammer is only around 7k.... so I guess I should put more into vigor..
did I make mistake?? should I make new char? max holy shield instead of smite?
maxing holy shield gives more defense I guess, but defense still matters when block is 75%??

Yes. Your real damage is several times higher. Divide your Grief's +dmg by your shield's dmg (after Holy Shield) to see exactly how many times.

I don't know a lot about vanquishers, though.

just use the smite damage formula:

Min Smite Damage = (Shield Min Damage + (Damage +x) + (Holy Shield Min Damage)) * (1 + (Strength + (+x% Enhanced Damage) / 100)))

Max Smite Damage = (Shield Max Damage + (Damage +x) + (Holy Shield Max Damage)) * (1 + (Strength + (+x% Enhanced Damage) / 100)))

The top figures your minimum value, the bottom figures your max, the grief damage goes where it says (Damage+x)

:shocked: First pally?? Easy way to do it is add up all source of ed and strength then turn on holyshield now add the display dmg on shield to grief dmg. Finally take the dmg of shield+grief times by the total ed from skill/items/str for result.

Ok, I've done calculations and it came out too high........I've done exactly as thread says...
here's my calculations.

I use hoz and grief adds 387 dmg and 15%ED, holyshield dmg is 49-52, concentration and smite gives 555%ED, 540%ED, my current strength is 162
(20+387+45)*(1+(162+(1095)/100))
=452*(1+(162+10.95))
=452*(173.95)=78625.4.........
and thread says max dmg is 17k.....
plz tell me what did I do wrong here?

You devided 1095 by 100, probably because the brackets are wrongly put.

This seems to be the outcome for you:

maxSmiteDamage= 452*1+((162+1095)/100)

= 452 * (1 + 12,57)

= 452 * 13,57

= 6133,64

ps. I didn't think you included on-weapon ED in your original calculation btw (162+1095+15)

Eventual other auras
Smite
Strength
(Phoenix, but it sucks)

+damage should come from:

Shield base damage
Holy Shield +damage
Grief/Redeemer/Astreon's Ward +damage
