I've got a laptop (not the greatest in the world but it gets the job done most of the time) and all I have on it right now is 512MB of ram. (can't afford to get any ram ATM) and the video mem is shared.

Question is do I set the video mem to 32mb and let the computer make better use of the ram....or set the video mem to 128MB and let the "video mem" do the work when it comes to gaming?

Thx in advance for any advice you're willing to give.

if you only have 512, set your vram as low as possible 16/32 so windows can use the rest 496/480
when you get over 1g, then you can your video card more

it all depends on what you do with it, text apps, surfing and older games d2 ect dont need alot of video memory to run

newer 3d games require a good video card and enjoy lots of video memory

The video chipset is tuned to do graphics work, it will be much more efficient to give it more RAM if you want better framerates. . .the CPU wouldn't do anything anyway in terms of graphics.

It really depends on the game though, games like Supreme Commander use far more CPU than graphics power, but Call of Duty 4 will max out your graphics pretty fast.

I wouldn't expect a lot of performance out of a laptop, especially one with 512mb of shared RAM.

I'm not really playing anything extreme graphics-sense. The most intense thing I play right now are games like cabal and such. And trust me, I don't expect a lot of performance out of this laptop either lol. But, I AM a gamer therefore I play what I can with what I have which is the reason I was curious about the shared ram settings. Thx for the help.

Dondrei why am I ****ed? :undecided: I can play games just fine. I never once said I had a problem playing any games. I was just asking for people with TECHNICAL experience to give advice on how they thought I should allocate my shared memory.

And I would love a 360 bg1256. If you want I'll PM you my paypal info and you can send me the money to get one.

For about 90% of bugs and crashes in video games the problem turns out to be integrated graphics.
