Spoke to a friend at Blizzard a couple of weeks ago. He takes his confidentiality agreement seriously, but was willing to answer general questions. From these I found out the following...
There was a company show and tell a couple of weeks ago and it was announced that a new game would be announced at the Paris show, definitely not Starcraft ii or a WOW expansion. It will be from an existing property but will not be an MMO. The next generation MMO they are hiring for is "several years away." I asked him if Blizzard were to do a Diablo III, would they make it first/third person like Hellgate and he said they would stick to what they know is successful.
Unless it is a Lost Vikings sequel, I am very confident that Diablo III will be announced in Paris.

He might as well just admit that it is DIII definitely not Starcraft ii or a WOW expansion. It will be from an existing property . What other franchises do Blizzard have?
If your source is credible that is great news. For those of you who don't know, June 28th 2000 was the release of D2. Couple that with the info above, and it sounds like we have an unofficial announcement.
Once again, if the source is good, then this also ends the debate over whether or not D3 is MMO.

That was the exciting news to me as well. He had all but admitted the existence of DIII in the past but this was the first time I got specific about gameplay. To learn that it would not mess with the formula was music to my ears.

Anti MMO D3 ftw.

Maybe it's a new Lost Vikings game  Or or Blackthorne
World of Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye, I'm so excited!
June 28th can't come soon enough.
:scratch:Anyone know why they chose Paris?

:scratch:Anyone know why they chose Paris?
Maybe because Europe is where half of the money comes from and Paris is where almost all of it goes.

RPM Racing
The Lost Vikings
Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye
Rock N' Roll Racing
The Death and Return of Superman
Justice League Task Force
Blackthorne
now i'm not sure if blizzard has rights to any of those other than lost vikings. obviously the superman and justice league games aren't theirs in terms of the rights seeing as they'd all be owned by DC.
interestingly though they have two things i see
1. projecy "hydra" which is being called an MMOG
2. Unknown project - could be project hydra but listed as a "next-gen MMO"
personally i think a new rock and roll racing would be pretty sweet and i could see a new updated blackthorne could be awesome.
:scratch:Anyone know why they chose Paris?
Blizzard's Euro HQ is in Paris.

But aren't Diablo, WarCraft and StarCraft Blizzard's main franchises?

OMG this is the first actaul forum responce that i haev seen from elly
now back to my regularly scheduled responce
Ive been waiting ever so patiently for this to happen, anyidea if there will be a live presentation of this announcement on blizzard.com?
When it comes to big announcement theres always press conferences or gaming shows. im more than curious about this so i can use my time effectively to make sure i have my computer and properly place pillows so i dont sustain major physical damage when i hit my head off the roof.
Little confusing imo... from the sound of this guy (http://www.wowguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9257) it sounded as if D3 was going to be an MMO. (As he states guild housing to be a big feature of the game). Now a few years later we can see that he wasn't exactly spot on with all his statements, but got perhaps 40-50% of them. Anyway, MMO or not, it will probably be good :>.

Lmao. Only when the Diablo, WarCraft and StarCraft franchises have been completely drained will they resort to this :P
With the amount of idiocy in this world, Warcraft will never be drained out. Yes, I'm referring to WoW.
@Topic, June 28th is almost here. A little over two weeks away. I hope we get some good news then.

Whether diablo 3 is released or not, it is always good to hear that blizzard will be announcing a new game june 28th. One is better than none.
Even if it is the next Lost Vikings...
If its announce I will begin by reading the Sin Wars Trilogy, and then the rest of what is considered canon. At the same time, I will begin to seek out and absorb each bit of information I can find about the game. Once this process is underway I will begin considering options for the guild I will make.
If they dont announce it I will continue playing AoC I suppose, with a bit of D2 on the side.
AoC? Man that game sucks, everything is instanced, including the towns... WTB Epic Long blade! Oh im in town 3, instance 4, meet me outside.....
If D3 is announced, ill too will be reading all the books i can find on the diablo series. There should be a diablo wiki imo, that has everything there is to know about diablo.

Lost Vikings was a great game, one of the best arcade games I ever played. Maybe not as complex as supaplex, but it still was fun, with all the great music and some humor.
But that's not a game I'd actually want to see as a sequel (LV2 sucked). So.. yea, we're pretty much left with Diablo. Or SC:Ghost. Or whatever. I doubt they would try Warcraft IV so soon.
