Reziarfg, end of story.
If that would be a real character, I would be real happy.
hidden, overlords, horned beasts, advocates, acid beasts, magma demons, steel lords :D

There are 2 monsters that apitimize D1 and they are the Goatmen and Devilkin. They'd have to come back. From D2 there are the infamous Oblivion Knights (best undead), Regurgitator (best Demon), and Wendigo (best animal). However I really miss the acid spitting Hell-Hounds from D1, they left an impression on me you could say.
If I could only pick one of the above it would be the Goatmen. They are Diablo imho. Long live Gharbad the Weak!
What I think D3 could do without:
fire turrets and the like, boring!
Reziarfg, end of story.
If that would be a real character, I would be real happy.
Just as the cow level was a D1 joke, I think it would make an excellent secret monster.

I'd like to see fewer cutsie/cartoonish monsters and a more gritty feel overall. Like the Act 3 dolls and goofy little butcher knife critters.
I'd like to see any monster that has a natural environment in which it operates.
Less "Look at me, I'm a sand maggot, I live near an anvil in hell and just wait all day for heroes."

make flying creatures/ winged creatures really fly. normal melee attack can't hit. haha.
oblivion knights/mages . though i hate Iron Maiden... haha i love to see people dying because of that.

Goatmen, Skeleton Archer(ofc ;D), Finger Mage, Blood Lord and Succubus. (The Succubus's should look more evil imo)
I think they should throw in some sick twisted ****, like Reziarfg.

Like your attitude. I like to see people just dying lol, preferably in packs. They need more monsters that gain power from facing more enemies. One of my favourite DnD monsters was the jelly. It just looked like floating knives and room objects until your ran into it, then it would just start doing digestive damage to you.

fallens they are cool
Corrupted versions of the Player Characters.
All the monsters from the original Diablo and Diablo 2/LoD. -Even Black Souls/Gloams, although it hurts to say it.-
Hundreds of new Monsters.

Some real over the top monster taking up a large portion of the screen. Something like that boss down Maggot Lair only bigger and more active.

Make vampires actually awesome... the blood lords don't even deserve to be called vampires. They look like vacuum cleaners with cloth put over it, and then a skeleton head and arms are added.
In turn with making vampires awesome make ghouls cooler, they are supposed to be a step up on the undead ladder.
Cooler insectoid monsters would be good. The swarms, giant mosquitoes and the annoying lightning beetles were not really interesting.
Goatmen were cool, more greek/roman inspired creatures would be great.
Trolls! There need to be trolls, not just the forum troll variety but more like the finnish lake troll variety. Maybe have some dead unicorns before you run into the troll?

geez, you guys are missing the best
I gotta have a cow level again. If I cant get cows, I'll settle for sword wielding geico-like lizards. (Grr insurance companies....)
watch out for the secret rabbit level...

can't have d3 w/o the greatest fill in monster of all time, the Fallen!
and if we can keep the spector/ghost thingys but give them a bit more omph, like make them into harry potter dementor guys with black robes and holy freeze aura's, now they would be badass.

I'd like to see the Butcher make a return. I remember the first very first time I fought him I had nightmares. (I was 10 at the time). DI had that sort of creepy feel to it, whereas DII didn't really creep me out. Maybe it's because I got older.
I'd also like to see monsters that have a better AI and interact more with the environment, and rather than just waiting for us to go to them, why don't they come to us?

I never fought a Beholder in any rpg, that'd be a nice change. One things for sure with diablo is that for the most part blizz folks are pretty good when it comes to giving us new and interesting monsters to fight. I seriously do hope they continue that trend with D3.
What Diablo 3 could do to make monsters more interesting would be to make demi-gods actual demi-gods. So far the big guys are weak so that the first time throughers have a chance but they could have others that you don't need to fight that are one heck of a lot more powerful in there own way.
Demi-gods and Ubers should imo have mods that the players can't have, like divine energy and displacement. It'd be nice if that were displayed for the player to see too. :wink3:

I think Blizzard should look at some of the mods that people use for single player DII and use stuff like that (Nez, Median, etc.) I've seen videos on YouTube of different mods and they look pretty good. Especially the ubers from Median

How bout more corrupt humans? Like the summoner or Lazurus..??
Something they should get rid of is Pyshical Immunes.... I can see Cold, fire, Lighting, Magic...but...pyshical? It kinda ruins the game for me. I mean honestly, what known creature would be not be hurt by hitting an axe, sword, hammer, with it?
LouisLeGros
25-04-2008, 23:46
rock golem would be sort of pointless to hit with swords
I don't see why having magic immunes is any more logical then having physical immunes.
Dorfoumous
25-04-2008, 23:50
Hammer would take out a rock golem.
I said, I can see cold, fight, lighting, magic...not saying I like them..
Honestly, ditch them all.... Whats the point of playing SP when something is immuned to you?
That's an awful argument.
It's to limit the power of a single character and cause them to diversify their skills. If we didn't have CIs Blizzard sorcs would be hammerdins, and god knows we don't need two of them
Dorfoumous
26-04-2008, 00:20
So then make immunes..so you are forced to team up with people and not play alone...or just run from them..
And bnet is the reason why I don't play diablo anymore.

There's plenty of solutions for dealing with PI's. FI's are the worst because there's so many of them. Why not take off some of the Fire Immunities and replace them with Magic Immune that actually works against the Hammerdins BH. Does that make sense or is it just me?

Favorite D1 monsters:
Goatmen, Hidden, Magmalords, Megademons, Succubi, Poison Spitters, Steel Lords and the gargoyals were pretty neat although probably underused and a little clunky in their mechanics.

It's just you. I would prefer no immunities but high resistance, say 90-95%, for some monsters (not subject to -resistance). I.e. you could kill them with your main skill, but it would take a long time.
A bar with resists info below their name would also be nice. Toggable info, 'cos after a while you know it by heart... lol.
This is something I thought would be cool in D2, yet could be in D3 do.
Hive mind monsters.
Say for instance, you wander into an area. Kill a few of these critters, and sit around sorting through the loot and deciding whether that yellow axe you just found is better than the one you have. While you're doing that, *every* other monster of that kind in that area knows your location and is heading right for you. Soon enough, you're going to get swarmed and have a big fight on your hands.
To add to the fun, throw in a few things that spawn them aroud the area, so there is a slow but constant steam of these things chasing you around, making it so you can't simply stop and rest and wait for your mana to re-fill or anything.
Or really, I just want smarter monters of any kind. Things that are just a bit more unique than the last monster of the same general type (melee/ranged, etc) than just met before.

28-04-2008, 12:46
Smarter monsters would be nice. They can hire me to write their AI :)
Forcing players to play in groups destroys the single-player balance of the game. I would like to see monster resistances scale with the amount of players in the game, allowing single-player characters to operate without having to deal with constantly shifting immunities, while forcing players playing in groups to have some variety lest they be at the mercy of a FI/CI they may happen to encounter.

I'm sorry, but this is stupid. Any character can access plenty of types of damage to deal with immunities. Barbarian has all the bases covered with any of his other attack skills + Beserk. Caster-types should be able to use more than one element and also have a mercenary + summons or attack themselves to deal with the rare monster immune to both their magic types.
It's not hard at all.
Something that grabs that spinning hammer out of the air and beats the hammerdin over the head with it untill its a small puddle...
seriously, more demonic and scary monsters would be cool...monsters that you are supposed to avoid for the time that you first run into them...

I like how you start your post with "I'm sorry, but this is stupid". It gives your post a whole lot more credibility.
Anything that pidgeonholes what builds a person can or cannot use to complete the game automatically leads to a less varied endgames. New players who don't happen to build right will innevitably be screwed when they hit hell at which point they have probably only encountered a handful of CIs, if that. Take for example a barb that didn't know it was going to have to put points into beserk (and not just one point, enough points) in order to fight a fifth of the enemies in hell. Oh well, you're screwed, looks like you're going to have to start your character over. That, my friend, is stupid. Just as casters "should" be able to use more than one element, they "should" be able to use one element.

So you want Diablo 3 to be Gauntlet?
And whoever said flying creatures should really fly and be immune to melee hits... yeah, that would be a lot of fun. I'd love to run around the whole map chasing some flying gargoyle. No wait, I meant to say I wouldn't love that at all.
Why no love for goblins in the world of Diablo? They're a perfectly acceptable evil creature to have in your world dominating horde. There aren't any evil dragon type creatures, either. There should be.

Using your barbarian example:
So you're merrily slaughtering normal monsters. By the end of normal you MIGHT have encountered an immune or two, but you might not have, and they probably weren't physical, so you don't really care. You start going through nightmare, and physical immunes start showing up. Oh crap, you think, I should put some points into beserk so I can kill them! Maybe I should also get some other source of elemental damage (weapon on switch maybe? That's what I do...), Problem solved. By no means do you need to max beserk in order to kill physical immunes in nightmare, as they shouldn't be very common, and once you reach hell (which, remember, is supposed to be HARD) you should have enough points invested/other sources of damage to get by.
I don't see how it's so hard to invest a few points to kill the immunes of your primary damage type.

I'll do better than to write about monsters I'd like to see. I'll list the monsters that have to be in the game for it to be Diablo!
-Fallen ones (devil kin, by whatever name bring the little ones back)
-The Goatmen (preferably as they were in D1)
-Skeletons! (With any armament availibly, hell I'd like to see skeletons with spears)
-Balrogs
-Doom knights (not some whimpy oblivion things)
-Zombies! (Like in D1 slow rotten but stong and with body parts being cut of)
I'd also like to see
-The hidden
-Horned ones (the coolest monster from D1 although they were way to weak)
-Scavengers
D2 didn't really add many essentials for me, although there are some I wouldn't mind seeing again and they include.
-The minotaurs.
-The mummies (awesome art on these ones)
-The enslaved
-The ghosts
I'm sure I'm forgetting some...

Centaurs would be nice imho
Also Goatmen and Wendigos from D2

I want D2 to have a survivalist/horror aspect to it. Anyone seen Silent Hill? Think "the nurses" from the bottom of the Elevator to Hell. I'm not sure how one could balance the alone, isolated, trapped feelings that arise from horror games with the grand team-related feelings of a MMO.
That being said, unconditional of the game style, I want a Gorgon as a mini-boss.
Heirophants those little jerks get really annoying when you get a group of them together.

Totally agree, but... the game would need to be perfectly balanced so that one skill doesn't dominate others (whirlwind or coprse explosion before 1.03, or blessed hammer these days). Of course, this is only if cookie-cutterism is seen as 'bad.'

Diablo is about Hell and demons! To mix its bestiarium with all possible mithologies does not make any sense.
All these ideas about goblins, beholders etc - itīs from another games or fantasy literature, they are cool but they have nothing with Hell to do!!!
I think that medieval iconography can give all needed inspiration. Hieronimus Bosh alone has created hellish horrors and landscapes enough for 10 acts. :starry:
