View Full Version : PvP Kick/Trap Build....
Was wondering if there is such a thing and if so is there a guide? I am new to sins so I don't know much other than ghosts, ww/trap hybrids......Also is such a build viable in PvP? I was thinking MB/WoF stun while laying a few traps and then getting a few kicks in as well......Thanks for any help!

No such guide but this type of build has been tried before by different players.
Not too effective but it can be made to work against some opponents.
Follow the same guidelines as any pvp assassin:
enigma build, 65+ fcr & 48+ fhr bps minimum
For kicking make sure to have some ow% to transfer to kicks, I recommend a BoS build over a faded one for such a character. Do not overshoot your dtalon level, slvl 17 for 3 kicks, keeping your burst short.
The standard kick/trap build using cb% (pvm build) does not fare well in pvp so do not look to those guides hints on how to gear up such a build for pvp. On that note.. here is some old footage of my pvm kick/trap sin back on east picking on one of my friends. It's not a good setup for pvp at all but I hit 65fcr/86fhr so it was still workable for the duel: http://media.putfile.com/gert-04-low
The basics: hit your breakpoint goals for fcr/fhr/ias, have nice +skills for trap damage, ow% is a good thing.
What kind of budget/equipment are you working with?
I am pretty rich on NL, although it might be hard to get my hands on some of the good sin claws which are rare. Especially since the NL community on West isn't very active.......but I can liquidate a character if necessary to build this sin right. I just don't want to jump right into a ghost/hybrid right away yet since it seems to take a considerable amount of skill with hotkeys. I was also thinking of a pure trapper, but most of my PvP'ing will be done in pubs so sorb will be a huge problem......
Also what is BoS?

BoS = burst of speed, assassins have a choice of BoS or fade to have on, not both. fade works better for wwsins and c/c trappers, BoS works better for kickers and w/s trappers.
Kickers really take the same amount of hotkeying as a wwsin, just a different style of gameplay. Main difference is with kickers there is an emphasis to learn dtalon chainlocking very fast, where as with a wwsin you need to learn proper whirl movement, although most advanced wwsin players will use dtalon or dclaw for chainlocking as well.
If you are new to assassins and dont want to be overwhelmed by hotkeys at first, you should probably start off with a pure trapper build, they are easier to control than kicksins, which require you to already have good control over trapping opponents, and in many cases you *need* to lock down an opponent with stun before you can kick them at all, which is in some ways harder to learn than starting off playing a trapper.
Also if you play in pubs and fear sorb then a kick/trapper wouldnt be of much use, seeing as the traps will get sorbed easier with less sorb needed, and the characters doing the sorbing (smiters, hammerdins, ww barbs) will not be pk'd by kick alone.

A pure trapper is a great place to start. You could place 1 point into dtalon and with the +skills from a trapper have a decent level of talon which you could try to get down in duels with friends. Since your on NL it might also help just to make a chaos claw in any claw to try wwing out since the runes are so cheap. This would give you a decent pvp char with your pure trapper, and let you try out the other builds and see which one you like the best or which one fits your play style.

i duelled with a kick/trapper for a goodly while before moving on to ww-sin variants.
i had a GREAT time with that 'toon. mostly coz i was using Viper and had max-block with stormshield (and a crappy charmset).
i got a goodly number of kills in, and had a lot of fun.
<3 kicks, my latest ww/trap build has a point in 'talon which can come in handy more often than some people might think.
Wasn't there a guide (draft) by Arbedark?
EDIT:

there.
ok, I guess I'll start with a trapper then......problem is I am looking for the LS trapper that uses the fire trap (wake of fire?) in addition to MB to keep opponents on stun lock.....can anybody point me in the right direction? Thank you for any help!

Every trapper should have access to level 1 wof. Just go with a standard LS light trapper build and throw in 1 or 2 wof to stunlock opponents if you are having trouble trapping them with LS alone. Useful vs a lot of opponents in my experience. Although of course you will be trapping primarily with LS as that is the source of your damage, wwsins and other shadow discipline assassins tend to mix up traps a lot more as both don't do damage and are looked at as sources of stun only, but any assassin should be apt at mixing up stun from both types of traps when the duel calls for it.
