View Full Version : Question regarding Infinity

I have a pure lightning javazon that I use for pvm/mfing. Ive never owned an infinity before, but i plan on making one soon, but I'm not sure what type of polearm to put it in. I'm concerned about iron maiden just OHKOing my merc, but if i make it in a lower damage polearm, he wont be leeching much life.
Never experienced conviction+LF before, will I be killing fast enough in Chaos to not be worried about my merc committing suicide?
Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

The short answer is you will still need to worry about IM.
The OKs that cast IM usually hang back letting the other melee ones to rush you. It makes them less likely to die from your one shot LF, giving them time to cast IM. Even with Conviction, LF has the chance to roll a low shot (remember that minimum damage number you never look at on lightning skills?) and all it takes is a single survivor and a single hit from a high damage poker like ECV Infinity.
If you hosted it in a low damage polearm like a regular Voulge then he is far more likely to survive a couple of self inflicted hits. Using a normal (not exceptional or elite) polearm he'll be doing roughly (very rough, depending on his level, other gear, which normal polearm, ED on Infinity, etc.) 500-800 dmg. Compare this against his Health.
I've used both. On a practical term, I do notice a slight difference. He'll survive 4 maybe 5 hits. It's alot better when you're using a sorc since she can teleport away. Not so great with a Javazon. Usually you can kill things before he gets enough shots into himself, but thats just luck, when the IM gets casted, how the crowds are positioned and what direction he's running. Sometimes I can save him, sometimes not. You'll just have to try it out.

Problem is I cant really try it out without infinity and I only have the runes to make one. Is the survival rate of the merc using a low damage polearm low enough to just grab an eth elite polearm?
I actually wear enigma on my javazon, so i CAN tele if necessary, but usually not, due to her craptastic castrate.

Trade for a low Infinity, it will save you some runes. Get an eth elite one and go for eth Shaftstop + eth Gaze, it will make your merc survive 2-3 hits. This gives you the time to give him a full rev pot and/or tele him back to you, so that he dont poke another monster.

It's kind of hard to trade for an infinity...or at least for me. Most people come in with their mercs using it, thus they overvalue it.
Is there really a price difference between a low and high roll on infinity? the conviction aura is always lvl12, unless I'm mistaken.
If I were to make Infinity in an eth elite, would an eth thresher work fine?

As long you do Chaos Run. The likelyhood of getting IM is rather .. Likely i should say.
Dun worry about IM and just Go for HighDamage Polearm. You nid the merc to help you poke those immune to lite mobs even after convicted..
I cast decoys at the far end of my screen to lure wadever curse the knights would cast. and then throw LFs. I would also walk infront of my merc.

Well I made it into an eth elite, and I have to say I'm quite happy with the results :) Never killed big D in hell that fast before o_O;;
Glad to find that I'm able to wipe out the knights before they can even do anything :D Merc has yet to die in chaos. Thanks for everyone's help~

For trading I suggest diabloii.net trade forum, alot of nice guys, low scamattempts and you dont have to deal as much with noobs, jerks etc as you do when trading ingame.

Let's see... someone check the math on this.
D is 50% LR so you're pre-Infinity is 50% damage. Infinity gives you 100% which makes your lightning 100% more effective. Plus 35% of full damage. This makes it +160% Lightning damage?
If you really want to see the power of Conviction, try doing Meph without the stick. Then try it with the stick.
Meph is 75% LR so you're pre-Infinity is 25% normally. Infinity give you full damage so that's +300% of normal lightning. 10% below the no resistance mark of full damage is 30% of your normal lightning damage. That makes it 330% more effective on meph?
So you should be killing D a little more than double speed. And Meph about quad speed.

Well...for meph, I'd rather do it with a...uh, how would you call it, a chr that can tele more efficiently :X. Haven't tried running meph as I assume it's best left to those sorcs and pallys.
On another note, my resists are hurting pretty bad. I'd really rather stick with enigma than change over to CoH. From the way I'm looking at it, it seems that my javazon cant seem to balance killing power and resists.
I'm wearing:
Shako with +mana/kill jewel
pdia SS
Enigma
Titans
Razortail
Cat's Eye
Rare 20ias +str/dex 25CR/20LR gloves
Ravenfrost
Rare 7ll, prismatic, ar, other crap
Travs
Anyway to remedy this problem, or am I going to have to stock up on charms.
Thanks

As for Higher Resist, the best way is to stock up ur charms. many many 5Ar + sweet mods. haha
You could change ur boots to ScarabHusk for the extra Posion Resist mod. the rest of the mod is the same as ur travs (except MF)
HighLord ammy and T-god belt improves your resist to Lightning.
or you could try my build up :
Shako with Um Rune
Pheonix Mon
Enigma
Titans
Thundergod
HighLords
Rare 2Jav 20ias +str gloves
Ravenfrost
Rare Dual Leech + str + aR
GoreRider
my resist juz barely reach to the positive side even with the help of the charms. But with the redemption Aura you juz cant really die as long there are corspes on the floor.
Make it in an eth cv or thresher. If you make it in a low-level polearm it loses all of its resale value.
You can always remove it from your merc for a second while you kill a huge pack of OKs, then drop it right back on him.
