Well, I messed up my last sorc, because it was my first ever Diablo II character. I took bad advice and made it a blizz\fireball sorc. Horrible damage and no pvp capability :cry:

Anyways, I need suggestions on a new sorc from people who actually know how to play Diablo. -.- I kind of want a sorc that can mf, but also is able to pvp decently. I hope thats possible :P.

If you post, post gear, stats, and attribute builds please. Im pretty noob so as many explantions about gear and rw's would be great. Thanks a ton.

if you want pvp capability, you need to go single-tree. hybrids just don't have the damage for pvp purposes.

the following builds can pvp ok and can MF with some moderate gear switches:
pure Blizzard
frozen orb
pure fire
pure light

so, what kind of sorc do you like?

Id either like a pure fire or light. They seem the coolest to use ;) I love fast paced things, and cold just doesnt seem like that :|.

viable pvp fire builds:
200fcr/86%fhr vita or es, your choice
200fcr/142%fhr vita or es, your choice --> neither of these will have shield block

105%fcr/86%fhr (142fhr if you have the means) max block. vita or es, your choice.

light:
117fcr/86%fhr (or 142 if you can swing it), block or not, es or not all your choice.
105%fcr infinity nova sorc.

these builds can MF ok with some gear switches. lit sorcs benefit more from infinity than fire sorcs do.

i would suggest against going the es route unless you have some pretty godly gear (lifer GC's mostly).

Im leaning towards lightning, but can you explain what es is...I feel like a nub here lol.

How would I go about achieving the hit recovery and cast rate bonuses? Any suggestions on attribute builds?

es = energy shield. es builds can tank a lot more damage (the exceptions being poison and open wounds), but tend to dish out less damage than a straight vita build due to the investment in Telekinesis/Energy shield rather than synergies.

you get fhr by using items with the mod +x% Faster Hit Recovery (spirit swords/shields being one of the favoured places to get bulk fhr)
you get fcr by using items with the mod +x% Faster Cast Rate (helms, rings, belt (arach), armour (viper/ormus) gloves (magefists/trangs), amulets etc)

i'm not going to list the entire build here, there must be a guide somewhere in the knowledge library for you to read, then ask questions.

Ok, Im back with questions.

First, does anyone have opinions on block vs. no block? Is the block worth getting, or is life more worth it?

Second, what is a good amount of dex and str to get? For both block and no block. Wizspike is a seemingly good weapon to use, but im not sure about the dex requirement. Thanks for any opinions :)

I personally prefer vita to block, and all my sorc's have done fine. Moreover, if you go block, you end up sacrificing the possibility of using a Spirit monarch (which has base block), which IMO is essential to a decent sorc (Lidless is a cheaper alternative).
If you're building a mid-high end sorc gear-wise, I'd say points in strength after gear/charms to hit 156 to use monarchs. No points in both dex and energy, and the rest in vita. Most sorcs usually go for hoto (heart of the oak runeword) which is a fairly cheap and great caster weapon. If you don't mind sacrificing resists, you can also go the eschuta route for more damage.

Well, I tried light sorc..Honestly didnt like it lol. I think im going fire for pvp only and Ill make a hammerdin for MF :o. Id probably go COH cause sorcs can already tele :|. I dont know what viper is so XD.

Im making a fire sorc now. Just take that into consideration with your posts please ;D. Im guessing the same attributes but just 100% fire skills ;).

IMO you better off making a sorc for MF and another for PvP.
