help for fire and light sorc

need help in building light + fire sorc..
do i need to max out both fire and light mastery?
and also chain light and meteor?
any good recommendations?

I don't recommend doing light + fire by going chain lightning and meteor. Both of those require some synergies to work well. Classically, I suppose, people go light/cold or fire/cold to take advantage of the fact that Frozen Orb rocks without synergies, and basically works off 26 skill points. Chain Lightning and Meteor will both need to be maxed, need a maxed mastery, and then some investment in synergies, which tends to spread you too thin, leaving you with either an ineffective second element, or both elements being mediocre.

I guess my recommendation then is to not do Fire/Lightning at all. If you really want to though, I recommend looking into Fire Wall as being your fire spell, as it does good damage if you can keep the enemy in it, and doesn't have/need synergies.

If you're playing with patch 1.10 or later (connecting to battle.net will give you path 1.11b or something), you'll find that some skills such as Chain Lightning get more powerful if you put skill points into related skills. In particular, Chain Lightning gets a 4% damage bonus for each skill point you add to Lightning. The synergy bonuses are all listed in www.battle.net/diablo2exp/skills and you can also view them in-game in the skill tree window.

as for fire side, should i max out firewall or meteor taking into consideration that i max out CL for light side.
pls note that it's for PvM.

I think Firewall will be more rewarding with the fewer skill points you have to invest in it, that is if you do the synergy on the CL side. If not, then Meteor might be better.
