yeah.... is there a good way to find jewels in particular? and do some only appear on certain acts? help's appreciatedthe affixes on jewels follow the same rules as the affixes on other items (except a max of 4 affixes on rares). A combination of this (http://diablo2.ingame.de/spiel/expansion/itemdb/affix_index.php?lang=en&version=lod&patch=111) and this (http://strategy.diabloii.net/news.php?id=551#Area%20Levels) is all you need.

Cows drop a whole bunch. I also get a jewel or 2 almost every time I kill the council.

Ghosts/spectres/wraiths etc. are best (~1/560 in 1 player games), followed by cows and all kinds of quill rats (both ~1/1200). All the rest has a chance of 1/1700, with the exception of about 20 monsters.The chances are for one-player games. Regarding bosses, act bosses are the top jewel droppers (with 1st kill Andy and Duriel being the best of them all with a 1 in 49 chance), followed by super-uniques and then random bosses. See ATMA for details.

None of the jewel affixes need high-level monsters (the highest is "ruby" with an alvl of 66 which is equal to the ilvl for jewels), so it's enough to enter a crowded area in hell mode, in particular those with ghost type monsters. Nightmare is not enough, except for WSK 3 and the throne room.
