View Full Version : Light/Cold MF Sorc?

Just got back into D2 again (despite the proliferation of D2 clones & MMOs out there — oh, and I'm extremely disappointed in Hellgate's bugginess). Against my better judgment I'll probably end up building a casual MF sorc to kill some downtime between more intellectually stimulating games. I'm not keen on meteorb builds, though, hence my question:

Would a Light/Cold sorc (L/CL/LM + Orb/CM) be a viable solution for MFing?

I usually found Mausoleum, Pit, Ancient Tunnels and RoF running-about to be the most interesting, though I usually knocked out Shenk/Pindle & Meph just for kicks...

Does anybody have a build like that? If so, what are your thoughts about it?

Thanks.

yes, it's viable. search the forum/check the stickies for guides about this one.
i'm sure there are some.

It's a dual element sorceress, with a powerful backup skill (FO) and a strong main attack (CL/L). It is viable in Hell, just like Meteorb. I do not like CL/FO much, but that is personal preference, it's not like it's any worse.

My main suggestion is: use Tal's set. Many people will call you "noob", "neeb", "nab" etcetera, but there is no setup better for a dual element sorc than that, even in 1.11b. You COULD use a Death's Fathom + Griffon's, but that costs a fortune, and you will not see it anywhere in the near future.

Yep, CL/FO is great for MFing. Just a tip though, you might want to buff up CM if you're short on +skills, at least to 17. Mine only has one hard point and 6 CM total and has a bit of a harder time killing LIs. Well, I wouldn't say difficult, really, just somewhat tedious.

It doesn't help that LIs are also some of the more dangerous beasts, say, those archers in the Pits, or the skeletal mages in AT (which are usually only a problem for my merc, though). Be warned, everything in the Mausoleum is LI... pretty annoying.

Final note, if you're into running the Countess for keys or runes, CL/FO sorcs are probably the best character for doing so. CL and Lightning make short work of the Countess and her pack, and FO ensures you have a way to deal with any archers that might appear in her room.
