Many players who want to join a clan usually find themselves asking: "What clan should I join anyway?". For some it's the first clan they see; for others, their expectations are so high that they end up staying alone. Most people eventually find a clan of some sort, but they either end up leaving it due to inactivity or watch it fall apart. There are some good clans out there, and I'd like to think this is one of them. I hope you'll consider joining up and deciding for yourself.
I am Hotshot, the leader of Clan GIS: Guardian's Inner Sanctum. I founded this clan over three years ago because I was in so many clans that failed that I decided to make my own and do things right.
So how is GIS any different from those other clans? Well, for starters, it's a clan that won't fall apart over the weekend like most clans do. We're active in the forums and online. Although fairly large, the clan remains as personal as anybody could possibly want. Also:
A forum board with over 50 forums and sub-forums, so there's always something to talk about. The forums are a great place to lounge around, chat, and get to know your fellow gamers. I've put a lot of effort into making the transition into our community as smooth as possible, so you'll find lots of documentation on how to use various forum features, as well as info on everything else I think you might like to know as a member.
A diverse player base. Our members range from some of the best in their respective games, to players that have just started playing, and just about everything in between. Both PvM and PvP enthusiasts will find plenty of people who share their interests. Because we support multiple games, you'll also have a much easier time moving from game to game because you'll be able to get all of your questions answered and find good people to play with, all in one place.
Your voice will be heard. Almost all of the changes/decisions that are made are voted on by everyone in the clan who wishes to. The voting is done in polls in which all members can cast their votes. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to post their suggestions or feedback in the suggestions/feedback forum, and to contact administrators or leaders about any ideas/complaints they have. I've also added a QOTW (Question of the Week) system, so everyone can leave their input regarding important issues while remaining completely anonymous. This prevents any bias on my part, and allows you to be completely truthful in your response to the questions without fear of judgment.
Tons of other features. Our own Ventrilo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventrilo) (VoIP) server, modifications integrated directly into the forums such as an arcade with high scores so you can see how well your score stacks up against other members, a built-in blogging system, a point system similar to d2jsp's, a GFX community, and so much more!
However, no matter how many features you put into a website or forum, ultimately it's the people that make any community what it is, and define any clan or guild as a whole. You might decide to join us because we play a game (or games) that you play right now, but if weeks or months or years from now you decide you no longer want to play our supported games, you'll want to stay anyway because of the people you've met. If you leave because you have more important things in your life than games that need to be addressed, you'll probably want to come back once you've taken care of them. I say this because I've seen it happen time and time again over the years, and any doubts you have about us now will surely be erased within a week of becoming a member.
Requirements:
Maturity: We are a mature guild, and are only looking for mature members. Although age isn't always the best determinant of maturity, members that are accepted are generally at least 16 years old. Exceptions are made for people that are younger than that, but act like they're at least 16.
Respect: Treat your fellow clan members as equals. Nobody is a better person than anybody else regardless of their title, game experience, wealth, or anything else. As all other clans, we have our own set of reasonable rules which all members are asked to follow.
Selflessness: We don't want people to come to us looking for free items or a quick way to get rich. The knowledge and help you receive will help you get there eventually, but that should not be the main reason you join.
Loyalty: You cannot be a part of another clan if you want to join us, unless you're in that clan or guild for a game that we don't have an official division in yet (WC3, Guild Wars, WoW, etc). Tags are not required. However, many members do use tags in their account and/or character names to show their GIS pride.
If you're interested in joining, go to http://www.clangis.com and fill out the application by clicking on the "Join Us" link.
Games/Realms:
Diablo 2 LoD: ESCL, WSCL, ESCNL, WSCNL (in order of most -> least members). We do not have a Europe division. We do have some hardcore players (for now mostly on west), and a forum dedicated to hardcore, but no official hardcore division yet.
MapleStory: GMS Khaini (Guild name - InnerSanctum)
Starcraft: USEast, but I dont think we have any starcraft players currently.
Warcraft 3 TFT: Azeroth/Lordaeron (unofficial division for now)
Many members also play WoW on many different servers, but we dont have a WoW division yet.
