hello people on the barb forums! i used to post here years ago when i had a really cool barb that could tele with enigma, but i've since been on a 2 year haitus and came back a few weeks ago! i want to relive my old barb days where i was pretty wicked, whirling and twirling and teleporting around, so i have come to seek the advise of the many wise ones here

here's the skill list,
20 SM
20 WW
20 BO
20 Shout
1 Berzerk
1 to preq and a few into nat resists and faster r/w until the diminishing kicks in

now here's the items and my reasoning,

helm: arreats
armor: enigma
wep: ebotd cb with ss
switch: echo spears
belt: help!
ring1: ravenfrost
ring2: ???
ammy: ???
boots: up'd gores
gloves: steelrends

on my previous ladder season, the most expensive gear i could afford was an enigma for my barb, which i made on an archon plate i found myself. however, on this season, i made a skellemancer and i'm running all the key droppers and finding at least a set of keys with just an hour of gameplay. with that reasoning, high end gear isn't out of the reach for me, but crazy leet perfect items are pretty much out, haha!

ebotd is the wep of choice for me, since i've never used one in my entire life, and only this ladder season, i seem to have a chance at affording it! with the dual leech and -25% defense, i really think this kicks butt for pvm. not even mentioning the spiffy light radius!

enigma on an archon plate! cos its dead sexy on my last barb, how can i say no to another one? with an enigma, i found it very easy to teleport around hell like mad when rushing people. of course leap attack is very useful for rushing in act4, but it can't beat tele-ing through walls at the catacombs!

ravenfrost for the "cannot be frozen" mod and i'll be looking for a good 20 dex one too. that ought to help shave off some of the dex i need for max blocking with ss

now here are the equipment that i need advice and help on!

arreats is just a good all rounder helm for me, but i'm a bit dumbfounded onto what to socket it with? maybe an um for the resists, because i'm using enigma?

stormshield with a pdiamond? i can't think of anything else to go into the socket that can beat the price and benefit of a pdiamond! a sheal? does it increase blocking frame rate?

belt. now here's the dilemma. in hell, i know that there's a penalty of leeching. i think the last i heard, it was divided by 3 and rounded down to the nearest integer. with either at 15 strings or 15 dungos, i'd be maxed with 50% dr. if i don't need the leech for hell survival, then i'll go with dungos for the extra life?

up'd gores! now, i sort of fancy these for the mods and the cb ought to be useful in helping me take down bosses, though 15% is a bit meek, but they are great boots, no?

steelrends. now the choice of gloves is kinda tricky. considering that my wep is gonna give me dual leech, i don't really require leech on my gloves. since non-wep ias doesnt affect ww speed and botd hits the last ww bp, steelrends is the only good option i can see.

ring and ammy! i used to have a crescent moon amulet to solve all my leeching woes, but with a botd, i don't think i'll be needing it, unless i wanna pimp out my leech to over 20/20 in normal and about 6/6 in hell? i reckon with the damage i'm doing, even 2% mana leech would be good enough for me. i've heard good things about metal grid, but i think a blood barb amulet would be pretty wicked if i could roll one. if my life leech isn't enough, a carrion wind with high leech can pretty much solve my problems.

i don't know why i'm so caught up with leech. my belt is gonna be only full rejevs and rejs, since leeching in melee is a make or break thing.

mercenary:
act2 might merc

eth "obedience" thresher
"threachery" armor
andy's visage

i was at the necro forums talking to the guys there about the mercs they use on their skellemancers to start with getting corpses and all, and after looking at a lot of options, this is the clear winner in terms of price and power. 40%cb on an etheral elite polearm, coupled with the ias from the helm and armour to hit the merc's ias breakpoint, as well as fhr from the wep and armor to nicely tough a fhr bp too.

i'm thinking that with bo and shout, coupled with my merc's might aura and very decent damage and cb%, we'd be a pretty unstoppable group. if the merc is getting ganged by a group, i'd tele so he'd be out of the heat. when engaging packs, i'll tele to just outside the pack, then i'll ww in and draw aggro while he picks off the outer ones

this barb is just in the drawing board. i've almost none of the items i've listed up there, haha! if all goes well on paper, i'd make my barb ready to go in a few days time!

please leave any adivce, comments or feedback. it will be glady appreciated

IMO you should drop the shield and go all out damage. That means dual-wield or botd twohander. A lifetap wand on-switch for "dangerous" crowds provides more safety than a shield tbh. I should know - i only play hardcore. Lifetap'ed "dangerous" crowds > 3 more points in BO.

With listed items you'll be having a resist "problem" - consider not using enigma. Metalgrid (if you can afford botd and enigma you can afford this) and good resist ring would help alot. Baba torch is dirt cheap (got my last one for an Um). IK belt help would help with resist too, although i love Thundergods too much  (string or dungo if you want DR% instead)

You could use Loh instead of Steelrends for damage to demons and FR. Alt just a rare one with bucketloads of resist.

Merc: Some WW barbs prefer Reapers Toll on their merc for decrepify curse.

You could always slap on Arach and magefist for quick teleporting. And perhaps 1 fcr ring.

metal grid like Tor said. Or highlords wrath. A second ravenfrost would be another solid make you hit VERY frequently, helps your blocking, and the cold abs is good news as always.
