View Full Version : Is there any agreed upon standard for uber kickers?

I've read the stickied Warrior Monk thread, and read through over 15 pages of it, but I still haven't seen a definite, clear cut method in creating this character.
The stickied guide seems to be directed at PVM as a whole, moreso than just ubers. IS there a skillset/stat distribution/gear that is agreed upon for soley doing ubers?
This is my understanding so far, feel free to add things or tell me why things are not a good idea and/or what a better idea would be:
Guilammes (don't know what to socket this with, yet)
Dusk COH
PB LW
Santcuary? Or maybe SS socketed with something?
Dungos
Up'd Gores
Angelic Ammy
Angelic Ring
20-xxx raven
Dracs
Stats are obviously going to be as much vit as possible.
Skills is where I get especially lost. How much into D talon do I need? do I need to even put any points into dflight since I'm not going to be pvming? I put 1 in everything in the shadow tree since I know I'll need mind blast, and SM. Should I max SM?
How many into fade? Fade versus BOS: if I use fade I can probably reach close to 50 DR w/ dungos and COH, but I'm not sure how the res would look. It seems like with fade I'll have no IAS from anything, what is the breakpoint I need to hit to be efficient, and is there any way to supplement the lack of IAS from fade?
Sort of just rambling now, but feel free to give me answers, I'd appreciate it.
Just theory and using the limited knowledge from my own kicker.

Dungos
Up'd Gores

I would consider this setup(small adjustments from yours):
Guila - 15 Ias / Add jewel (Ress would be great for some stack)
Stormshield - 15 Ias / Add
Shadow Dancers
Metal Grid
1x Rare or another Raven
Raven
+2 MA / 20 Ias / whatever Gloves
7/3 speed and a free belt of choice (Fade + SS gives you more then enough DR). 30 Dtalon would be quite easy to reach aswell but I'm not sure if people go for this.
I would in any case. More kicks -> Faster Kicks -> More Lifeleech/CB.
Not sure the extra AR from Angelic Combo is worth the ress/def/adds you get from Metalgrid/ring is worth it. I guess you should end up with around 16-18k AR with this setup (guesstimate).
The str req really isn't that far fetched on Dancers(167) from Gore Riders(156) and the added mods on Gore isn't really that needed since Guili / LW will cover CB/OW

Just lookout for the fade procc on LW. I would easily go for Fade instead of BoS, if you're already stacked you could use BoS on the first 2 then switch for Meph I guess.
I think 8/3 is the lowest I would go that would feel like slow-mo after 7/3.
I can ramble about more stuff but that should cover some parts of it.
HTH
/Equila
Edit: Kiras(15 Ias) + upg Gore riders should be a bit less expensive still reaching the same breakpoints with quite a lot more ress.

The angelic combo was born out of reading threads where people thought they weren't hitting meph enough. Would swapping out ammy for a cats eye help? How much IAS do I need, if I'm using fade, to hit the 7/3 or 8/3 BP?

I'd hope not.
First lets recap how most chars deal with ubers:
1. get a fast attack
2. get CB
3. get OW
4. get life tap
5. stack res for mephs conviction
Your gear:
Guilammes (don't know what to socket this with, yet)
Dusk COH
PB LW
Santcuary? Or maybe SS socketed with something?
Dungos
Up'd Gores
Angelic Ammy
Angelic Ring
20-xxx raven
Dracs
A LW PB only hits 10/4 kicks, while with just 10 IAS more you will get 9/3. Easiest place to get it is using socket in your helm.
You could also opt switching out the Guillaumes for a Kira's for more res. You are already at a minimum of 75% CB, which is more than ok.
Skills is where I get especially lost. How much into D talon do I need?
I don't see why you get lost here. Especially if you only go for ubers you can skip the entire trap tree and with ~100 points available I don't see any reason to not max DTalon... Same for other skills, there's no reason to not max Fade because otherwise you'd simply have skillpoints left over, although the fade proc of LW could get in the way i guess.

Cat's eye would very much help.
With Fade active using a Phase blade:
8/3 -> 18 Ias req
7/3 -> 46 Ias req
using this calculator (http://diablo2.ingame.de/tips/calcs/speedcalc_titanseal/speedcalc_english.php).

I would rather use Fleshripper as a weapon, just use a life tap wand and put on Draculs. Prebuff the fade and use Demon Limb for AR boost.
I think Dragon Flight is a must in there. Sometimes you need to teleport to the boss, if there a lot of minions in the way.

The only reason I was confused about skill placement is because I read a lot of posts about people wanting only ENOUGH Dtalon or Fade to hit certain breakpoints. But I figure since I don't need to drop 20into DS it shouldn't be an issue, thanks for the help.
IF dump 20 in fade, and 20 in dtalon, should I max Shadow Master and Venom?

Some time ago i was quite in the same position as you are, check out the considerations made in that thread:

Good luck!
