Hey gang.

I made a thread concerning Double Swing viability for ubers last year, where SSoG provided very convincing arguments regarding it's viability damage and speedwise compared to frenzy. Shortly thereafter I quit as I had work up to my throat and my uber plans were never realized.

Eventually I got back, and I was determined to continue on my Double Swinger. However, I quickly noticed another, possibly significant difference between Double Swing and Frenzy which is this:

"Double Swing

Effect: A quick double attack that can damage TWO NEARBY ENEMIES." - Quoted from Arreat Summit.

Now this means that you will attack two mobs simultaneously should the circumstances allow you to do so. Furthermore, this can be problematic at times when you want to focus on a specific mob when surrounded by lesser ****e. This is not the case with Frenzy.

Now it all boils down to this: I hear that uber Tristram is FILLED with minions that constantly respawn. Will their presence make my life hell for other than obvious reasons (interruping focus on ubers, that is)?

im pretty sure frenzy hits adjacent targets as well, if im surrounded and killing off the minions on a unique every now and again if im locked on a target other than the umonster their light enchant will proc...given that they have the abuility

Frenzy does indeed swap targets when close enough just like Double Swing. I usually hit 4-5 times with Frenzy then swap to my alt weapon (grief + ss) and berserk for the durration of Frenzy's little bonus --- rinse and repeat. It works wonders against bosses with mobs around them.

My opinion is that Frenzy is an *UPGRADED* version of double-swing. This is the beauty of Blizzard's skill design. Frenzy upgrades double-swing's speed, damage and AR, however, the nature does not change.

Remember that double-swing's mana cost decreases to 0 after a certain skill lvl? Frenzy always costs mana, and it would be an interesting thing to notice that when you face a mana-burn monster, and get 0 mana after struck, your attack will become double-swing automatically, until you get enough mana for Frenzy again. This skill tree is a little bit special and interesting.

Thats a very nice way of putting things... I personally switch to double swing myself if my mana is running low. That way I have the Frenzy mods for a bit ADDED to the insane attack rating that Double Swing gives. If done properly you'll gain your mana/life back in a few swings and you can switch to Frenzy again to keep the good times rolling.

mana is never a problem when i frenzy, if you want to be as fast as possible i think dubble is a tad faster, just bc it has a diff motion.. you could charge up a low lvl frenzy and switch to ddblswing and have some sick speeds...not much dmg tho

All very interesting posts considering Frenzy and Double Swing both attack at no more than 5fpa.

All right. So we've confirmed that Frenzy does indeed hit adjacent targets, just like Double Swing. This should prove that Double Swing is viable for ubers. Also, I'll post the calculations SSoG made in my previous thread, maybe they'll convince you too :).

The raw damage of Frenzy will be higher (probably more than 20% for 60 points invested), but DS is surely ok for ubers.
