I'm trying to figure out the math on breaking immunities with lower resist. I know that it works at 20 percent effectiveness when working against an enemy with 100 or more resistance. Does that mean I take my - enemy resistance figure from LR (such as -32% for lvl 1), reduce that by 80%, then subtract that from an enemy's resistance level? If it drops below 100, he's no longer immune, correct?
I'm just trying to plan to get LR to a usuable level for breaking immunities without overspending. I've never really planned it out before.
I may be wrong but I think its, whatever your -resist is *.20
So if you had -50 lower resist it'd be 50 * .20 = -10 enemy resist

Pasky has it right. Just multiply your level of LR with .2 and that is what you subtract from the monsters immunity. If that figure falls below 100 he will no longer be immune and the other -%Res gear will kick in.

Here's an additional question:
How does the combination LR and Infinity merc (conviction) work? Is the combined -res from both sources factored in at the same time, or are they calculated in succession?
Conviction does stack with lower resist.
I finally found a monster to test on, Pit Lords in act 4 with 120% fire resist.
(85+63)/5 = 29.6
Most cold immunes seem to have 130+ cold resist.
I don't know what level LR gives you -70% but that would break cold immunes with 130.

no LR gives -70% some monsters will NEVER break immunity

As far as the "stacking" goes with LR and conviction, remember that's for ice/fire/cold only, as conviction does not affect poison resistance. So a conviction merc is not of much use to necros.

Against elemental immunities, the Resist -% of Lower Resist and Conviction are summed and work at 1/5 (20%) effectiveness, even if one is capable of breaking the immunity alone e.g. level 7 LR (-51%/-10% vs immunity) and level 25 Conviction (-150%/-30% vs immunity) would reduce a Fallen's 100% fire immunity to 60% (100 - [(51 + 150)/5]) fire resistance.
Level Resist -% (vs Immunity)
________________________________
1 -31% ( -6%)
2 -37% ( -7%)
3 -41% ( -8%)
5 -47% ( -9%)
7 -51% (-10%)
10 -55% (-11%)
15 -60% (-12%)
26 -65% (-13%)
60 -70% (-14%)
Poison immunities are always a factor of 5, so level 10 LR (-55%/-11% vs immunity) is all that's needed to break 110% poison immunities; you will never get the -80% (-16% vs immunity) needed to break 115% poison immunities.
