2 weapons or 1 and shield?

Its been a long time since I have played D2 and Im going to start playing again. I wanted your guys's opinion on whether its good/better to play with two weapons or have 1 and a shield? My main concern is spreading points out to have enough dex to have a good block. What do you guys think?

My answer is that it will probably depend on your build, specifically your primary attack skill, but what do I know...let's wait for the experts.

I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but I have a very similar question. I'm making a WW barb for a tourney, where I am forced to do 2str, 1dex, 2 vit every level and must pick only 5 skills (plus prereqs). I probably shouldn't go weapon+shield, but 2 weapons or a nice, long polearm? Hints on the other 4 skills I should pick? Thanks.

Wow. Ive been away too long. Took me a while to figure out what those abbreviations ment. I want to go through the game and all the acts. Not duel. So I guess a PVm build is what I want. For a Pvm build, is 2 weapons or 1 and a shield better? Thats the final question.

I plan to max WW, Battle Orders, Mastery, and prob shout. With a few points into resist and stone skin. Thats the bulk of it. Heh, basically something that will be strong enough to take out anything in the real "game." I dont care about dueling. But im wondering if WW will work well/at all with only one weapon. Well, based on the fact that your just starting over you probably don't have alot of expensive equipment with + stats and such, thus it would be a pretty big sacrifice to go for blocking. I'd recommend a nice pole/spear or even a good damaging 2 handed sword. Be sure to have lots of life leech it will save your bottom when not wielding a shield.

Ty, Ty...just the kind of help I was looking for. 1 in BC is not allowed :cry:, neither is 1 in beserker for OKs. So the extra defense of Ironskin is worth it, even with maxed shout (instead of natural resist), maybe because it scales better instead of diminishing benefits--most people just put one point with plus skills in nat resist? But...there is a kicker I haven't mentioned yet. Because it would apparently be too easy for these HC vets otherwise :rolleyes:, we are playing with Set and Unique items only! How does that impact the choice of pole arm, spear, or sword?
