I know that when gambling the item level of the gambled item will be my clvl -4 to my clvl +5. But I can't find the item levels for different set items anywhere. Are they the same as the "base item"? Meaning that Arctic Furs has the same ilvl as quilted armor? Also, does quality level have anything to do with it?

Don't worry about that. If you can gamble for certain base types of equipment, their ilvl will be high enough for the according set item to be generated, at least for the exceptional items and in particular for the elite ones. For uniques the qlvls can be quite a bit beyond the base qlvl of an item, however.

Quality levels of unique and set items. (http://www.diabloii.net/items/110tc.shtml) See the qlvls behind the set item in question. The qlvl of the base items is only relevant for the affix generation of magical and rare items and (if they have them) automods. The ilvl must be at least the specified qlvl.

BTW, the chance for an item to become a set item (if possible) while gambling is 1 in 1000. For uniques it's 1 in 2000. 1 in 10 is rare and the rest is magical. MF or character level has no effect on it, but the character level influences the chance for an item (e.g. a crown) to be exceptional (grand crown) or elite (corona) instead.

Thanks for the quick reply! Also, can I ever be too high character level in order to gamble for some set items?

ilvl of gambled items is in the range [clvl-5, clvl+4], not [clvl-4, clvl+5].

You can never be too high level to get a specific set item when gambling. The worst that will happen is that each gamble will cost more (as gambling costs increase with clvl).

Yeah, but not for things like Sanderīs Cap and Tancredīs Boots.
(which are the most sensible set items to gamble for - if you are after elites, you face astronomical odds since you need both the elite upgrade and the 1:1000 for set item to happen on the same gamble)

For items like the ones I mentioned above, at higher levels you have a bigger risk for the base type to be upgraded to exceptional.

This (http://www.diabloii.net/items/item_sets/x_aldurs.shtml)is a good source for set item qlvls. On these pages, the qlvl is actually called 'item level', which is totally wrong, but the numbers are correct. :D

Yeah, but not for things like Sanderīs Cap and Tancredīs Boots.
... which is more or less a repetition of what I said. Sander's Cap and Tancred's Hobnails aren't exceptional or elite items.

I haven't said that it makes sense to gamble for set items. I actually agree with you and the last paragraph of my previous postings gives a hint about that IMO. :wink3:

@Es Mors: Get a 15% Gheed's and an Edge bow, they reduce vendor costs by 30% while gambling.

Thanks for the info everyone!

I'm actualy in a tournament where you can only use set items, so I'm pretty much gambling for stuff like artic armor and belt and sigon's shield. Check out the tournament in the SP forum if you want
