View Full Version : Stack question - x % damage reduction, and which it applies?
I looked around a bit and found 2 items (I onlt knew there was one, since I have it myself) with damage %-reduction.
Now the question is do they stack
Shaftstop gives 30% damage reduction and Stormshield gives 35%. Do they stack and give a total of 65%? Does it apply to all inc. damage or just physical?
Yes, damage reduction stacks, but it's capped at 50%, so using shaftstop and storm will only give you 50% DR.
Edit: It reduces only physical damage. Basicly it works the same way resists work, you just can't see your physical resist in the character screen.
Stormshield Monarch 35%
Natalya's Odium (Complete) 30%
Shaftstop Mesh Armor 30%
Trang-Oul's Scales Chaos Armor (Complete) 25%
Leviathan Kraken Shell (Ladder Only) 15-25%
Immortal King's Detail War Belt (5 items) 20%
Spike Thorn Blade Barrier 15-20%
Vampire Gaze Grim Helm 15-20%
Crown of Ages Corona 10-15%
String of Ears Demonhide Sash 10-15%
Verdungo's Hearty Cord Mithril Coil 10-15%
Crainte Vomir Espandon 10%
Harlequin Crest Shako 10%
Rockfleece Field Plate 10%
Rockstopper Sallet 10%
Ber Rune (in helm/armour) 8%
Ber Rune (in shield) 8%
Chains of Honor Armor 8%
Enigma Armor 8%

And to the second question: No, only physical damage. Overstacking only comes into play when you get hit by a curse that lowers your physical restist. So if you get hit by amplify damage when you have 65% damage reduce, you then have (65-100) -35% damage reduce or, you take 35% more physical damage then with 0% damage reduce.
See it as 50% physical damage resist. Just like you have elemental resists.

Oh god, that's a lot of items I have missed (better go check my harlequins crest =P)
Bassen, also notice that there's no cap for points damage reduced by, example what comes from Sol runes. You can stack that as much as you want and eventually, it will make you invincible against physical attacks.

yeah, buth then you need a heck of sol runes, how many for 100% incl DR?

Straight DR, also called iDR (integer damage reduction) can be very helpful when dealing with lots of weak-hitting enemies, or similar situations. Take the bugged Vipers in Halls of Vaught - instead of poison damage, their "poison javelin" deals physical damage - a set amount per frame. There are 25 frames in a second, so if you start taking damage from the poison cloud, it will quickly amount to HUGE amount of damage. However, if you equip enough iDR, you will be able to negate most of the damage, because while over 1 second the damage is huge, the damage per frame is relatively small. Say the vipers' jav cloud does 40 damage per frame (approximate). That would lead to 40x25=1000 damage per second. Huge, amirite? Now equip a 4-sol armor. You get 28 iDR (4x7). Now, out of the 40 damage per frame, only 40-28=12 damage per frame remains, due to iDR. This translates into 12x25=300 damage per second. Feel the difference?

The poison cloud still does poison damage, but reapplications of the poison do physical damage.
but is it possible to become almost 100% PI with solrunes and right equipment?

This solely depends on how strong the enemy hits you. iDR is calculated BEFORE DR%. Therefore, if you have 100 iDR, any hit below 100 damage (physical) will be totally negated. However, if you are hit with, say, 200 damage, 100 is negated, and 100 more passes through, gets modified by DR% (50 left, assuming 50% DR%), and makes an impact upon your life bulb. Some Extra Strong/Fanaticism packs hit so hard that iDR is almost useless, and DR% is simply better. However, in some cases, iDR really shines.

Therefore, if you have 100 iDR, any hit below 100 damage (physical) will be totally absorbedThe use of the word absorbed could cause confusion in this discussion, as Absorb in the Diablo II universe doesn't just decrease damage.

Yes, you're right here. I should've said "negated".
Now the question is do they stack
Normally I wouldn't go out and say this, but this is going too far. You have two (EDIT: three, actually) "live" threads with questions that you should've been able to find the answer to yourself. And I've seen about a dozen more from you.
There's a search button near the top of the page. Use it. If it doesn't work, try google.
