I get the game mechanics fairly well, but the level requirements for mods to spawn are pure hebrew for me since there's always a but that changes the requirement drastically. So, the question is about AtoD. Now arreat summit says the following:

Shields(33) for Artisan's prefix
Shields(11) for Deflecting suffix

Now, does that mean that my character has to be level 33 minimum to be able to Cube or Gamble for an AtoD? Or is there a but? Can I find these straight off vendors for sale, if so, where? A4? A5? Nowhere? :p

Act 1 hell at charsi is where I would roll.

So it can be plain shopped? Now I'm not going to ask you to do this unless someone has already calculated it, but at A1 hell charsi the amount of options for prefixes and suffixes is huge, as opposed to gambling with a level 33 character. Theoretically speaking, wouldnt gambling with a level 33 character net results faster, albeit being way more expensive?

as I recall she won't even vend to you under a certain level...all there will be are arrows and bolts.

I'm gonna agree with Shade here, Act 1 hell Charsi is your best bet, though I wouldn't know what level character to look with. Both "Artisans" and "of deflecting" are decently common, you could just level your character up and repeatedly check her to see if she's startin to show up with those pre/suffixes and go maybe 5-6 levels above that. You want to find the balance between when she will sell them to you at a reasonably consistent rate but that theres not a ton of others that take their place.

Nice link MYK! That pretty much sums it up.

To the original poster, if you do end up shopping in Act1 (The article seemed to suggest shopping with a higher level character in act1 normal would work well, or with a level 39 in hell act1), remember to "reroll" the game you shop in a couple times until you get a Rogue Encampment setup with the WP right next to Charsi.

Doing the runs with a sorceress with TK and lots of run/walk, or just a really fast character (BoS assassin comes to mind) would speed things up quite a bit too.

you can go ahead and gamble for tri-res boots while you're at it. now the optimal level for those is actually 33 but you would be close

I always shop Charsi in Hell and check her towers, I have bought several AToDs and I have also been lucky and got the Exceptional version from her once. I love them on Javazons as you can load them up with Diamonds, get the block bonus and already have a great deal of Dex for Javas.....pretty decent block just in basic stat needs and excellent resists.

Probably many droolers that would hate me for using them like that!

My 91 Sin has a AToD right now......bought from Charsi Hell.
