What should be prefered ?

1. For a smiter - zealot
2. For a hammerdin



Zaka : + 4 combat, + 20 str, + 50 res . Defense ~ 500.
Exile: +2 offensive, + 16 defiance ( 200 ed ), + 45 res . Defense ~ 1200.

My first choise goes to ol' good Zaka, both hammerdin and smealot. Call it "habbit".

How about Spirit? Hammerdins often wants to reach 125fcr breakpoint and then Spirit is necessary. Although, I prefer 75fcr and HoZ.

Exile, never had one of those and propably never will, so no opinion :smiley:

Hammerdin's best shield is a spirit, to reach the 125 fcr bp.
Exile is nice for massive defense and lifetap, very handy in pvm. I think for def smiters in pvp exile is wanted as well. An upped hoz is decent as well, since ebugged exiles tend to get expensive.

I find Spirit Shild rather small for a strong hammerdin. I prefer +str and +4 Combat over fcr and resist.

I have a 96 Uberkiller smealot and 95 hammerdin and both have zaka on them. And I wouldn't use other shields for them.

And you are probably used to teleporting with 75fcr then? Once you get used to anything quicker (using spirit) it's very hard to go back. You forgot the very important +mana on spirit that also makes things easier for a caster.

A hammerdin with 4k life and 10k defense ( Zaka grants big defense bonus in this matter ) has no problem with those 75fcr even in chaos runs or baal runs. This in PvM.

If we go PvP, for a hammerdin defense comes in front of speed too.

That's totally not true for PvP - I agree that defense is importan but so is speed. My hammer has ~13k defense with spirit IIRC.

I agree that Zaka based hammers are viable for PvM though, used one for a long time :smiley:

yeap, Uped zaka with Zod in it is pure gold.The only reason to socket a zaka with a zod is if it's eth. Better off with a non-eth upped zaka with a ber in it or whatever else, to be honest.

You seem to be kind of obsessive about def, to the detriment of other more important stats. Minor def increase more important than FCR? Hell no.
