Rerolling socket affixes?

I've just started wondering:

Say I have an Artisan's/Jeweler's/Mechanic's item. I then socket it with something (Jewels, gems, runes, you name it), and then reroll it. What will happen to the socketables?

The socketables will disapear along with both prefix and suffix, then you will get a message saying "Diablo walks the Earth" and your screen will start shaking like crazy!
