View Full Version : Is a Dual Claw Phoenix Striker Uber friendly?

I have been working on my CC Phoenix Striker now for a little while. Currently at lvl 43. She seems to be a lot of fun and with the equipment I am using right now in Nightmare, I have yet to use a single health pot. right now I am using the following

Dual Bartucs
Silks of the Victor
String of Ears
Nats Boots
Manald Ring (going to switch soon)
Nagel Ring (again just haven't switch to better ring for some reason)
Lore (111 def Helm)
Telling of Beads Ammy
Rare gloves

I know that adding crushing blow and open wounds equipment would work better but I seem to leach back mana and health quickly and was wondering.

Is a phoenix striker dual Claw feasible for Uber runs?

If so.. what have you used to make it work

I have

claws of thunder maxed, 1 pt in dragon talon, 6 pts in Phoenix strike, and a couple other 1 pt wonders such as shadow warrior etc.

doubt it's uber-friendly. All enemies there will be immune to your main-damaging attack.

I wouldn't try it. As in, you will die, probably a lot.

CB is the easiest way to take down the ubers, and phoenix has a VERY slow (compared to kicks or smite) attack speed. The ideal way to kill the ubers is to apply crushing blow at a very high frame rate.

Also note that all the ubers have at LEAST 75 res to all your elements and all are immune to one, but have only 20% or 50% physical resistance, making your elemental damage do almost nothing, while physical damage still works fairly well.

Factoring in the hell leech penalty and the 20% (meph) or 50% (baal/diablo) physical resistance, you wont be doing enough damage to stay alive, perhaps even with drac's since your attack speed will be fairly low. Also, to survive meph's lightning you should have at least 1200 life and maxed light res. Meaning you need a total of 200 res in hell. Or 300 lightning res total.

If you want to run the ubers, I'd try either the cheap one point smiter guide or the more expensive kicker guide that is posted here.

If you aboslutely must try it with that char (just because we said it couldn't really be done ) I would recommend.... Well, I'm not sure what I would recomend. You will most likely need an Infinity merc since you wil have to be able to reduce their res, and facets don't work on elemental chargeups. Probably a CoH to stack resists and a Fade prebuff from treachery. I don't know whether guils/gores/dracs would be useful since your attack speed wont be very high but I would try using them. Most likely a Mara's for more resists and the +skills, unless you need highlords for the IAS.... Hmm... this is getting expensive. Hmm... probably also a CoH for your merc, since you are going to NEED to keep him alive in-order to be able to do any damage via your elemental skills and meph's aura will wreck him otherwise....

Also, the game's difficulty ramps up a fair amount from NM to hell, so you should see how well you can handle hell before thinking about the ubers.

Infinity isn't even going to help you, because Meph's conviction will override yours.

I can't see a pheonix strike even being able to step into uber trist.

What about for organ hunting?

YOu can try it, but I doubt you'll have much luck there either.

Pheonix Strikes are fun, but they're really fragile, and when you're fighting huge groups of strong enemies that are immune to almost all your attacks, it's not going to be a cakewalk.

I couldn't even take down DClone with my Phoenix Striker (full nat set+bartucs, lvl 40 PS)

so basically what your all saying is that this build is crappy for Ubers etc.

so then my question is... what is it good for? anything special or just another PvM regular build.

In other words is it even worth continuing the build?

It's an interactive, fun, effective, and challenging PVM build. IF that isn't enough for you, I don't know what would be.

If you wanna play point and kill go make a hammerdin or something.

what we're saying is that elemental attacks don't belong in uber hunting

it's all about the crushing blow + open wounds + lifetap cheese
