How does a facet take effect? Does the subtraction to enemy resistances take effect upon striking? Or does it passively take effect to all enemies around you? Is there a range?
Also, will a fire facet work with the holy fire skill granted from the Dragon runewords + HoJ combo? I would like to know before i go sticking two of these in my COA.
Would i benefit more from putting something else in those sockets? I was thinking 2 bers for the DR, but 2 fire facets sounds like it would give some sexy bonuses. What do you think?
A facet's -res takes effect only when damage is calculated; that is the only time it exists. It only applies to the character that has the facet equipped, meaning it won't affect party members OR your minions/hirelings, just as party member's or hireling's -res will NOT affect you.
As long as YOU are equipped with the dragon/HoJ runewords AND the facets, the -res from the facets will affect you.
You're last question depends on alot of things, such as personal preference, playstyle, & other equipment. I usually ask myself these three questions, in order :
1. Do I need it?
If you're running max conviction w/ some +skills as your main aura, then chances are most enemies you face will already have -100 resistance to fire (that is the cap by the way, you can't lower an enemy's res below -100). After a conviction like that, 10% more is just a waste of sockets. The exception is against mobs that are immune or have more than 75% resistance. I personally don't think a decision should be made based on a rare circumstance, rather than on a frequent circumstance.
2. Can I afford it?
I expand this question to include "can i afford to use this on THIS character for THIS build". I play about 5 or 6 different characters very frequently, from a fishy to a meteorb, to fanatic zealot, to a furysin. Because of this I tend to think whether or not it would be better placed on one of my other toons. If you're going to put these in a CoA I would imagine cost isn't really going to sway you either way.
3. Do I want it?
If the first 2 questions don't seal the deal, then decide if this is what you want on your character. If its not the end game gear you've been dreaming of for this character, then whats the point? Turn it into currency and start saving/searching for that perfect piece of gear that you ARE dreaming of.
