I got a sword with 6 sockets. Im wondering what rune's or charms I should put into it...(im a noob) isn't there a certain combonation of runes that will make an item very good?

That depends. Which kind of sword is it ? Which character is it for ? Which skills does he use for attacking ?

Its a "Superior Phase Sword" and it's for my pally, and I use vengence/conviction

IIRC only 2 types of swords can have 6 sockets, so you either have a Crystal Sword (or excep/elite version) or a Great Sword (or excep/elite version).

The 6s crystal sword is great for jewels with low requirements to make a weapon to start out the game with. Look for 20 poison damage, 4 min damage and the likes with low requirements.

The 6s dimensional blade can be good in much the same way, useable at lvl 25. However, I much prefer other twink weapons like "Honor" Divine Scepter or some of the exceptional uniques.

The 6s Phase Blade has a few uses as well. Socketing with 6 shael runes makes for one speedy weapon for bear druids who rely on fire claws for damage. The only runeword worthwhile is probably "Last Wish", but if you had those runes, you wouldn't be asking this question.

The other swords are two-handed, so of less use. But they have their uses too, just more specific and more expensive rune-wise.

EDIT: Phase blade, you say? Vengeance damage scales with physical damage, so you'd be better off using a higher damage sword, or a good scepter most likely.

IMO a phase blade is the wrong weapon for your paladin. Veangeance damage mainly depends on weapon damage and the base damage of phase blades is too low to justify the speed gain in your case. I would recommend BotD in a ethereal berserker axe, which will offer massive damage, dual leech and speed. BTW, don't use Grief, its damage bonus won't be applied to vengance damage.

If you cannot afford that, better get a decent unique weapon.
