Merc Eq question

I was looking at the merc guide at the +skills that affect mercs. I'm thinking about using an a3 merc w/my avenger just cuz I'll have conviction anyway. The guide says that mercs benefit from +to specific skills if its one of the skills they already have.

So my question is:
What happens if I equip an A3 fire merc with trangs helm & trangs armor? Will he get +18 to his fireball because he's not a sorc? Or will he get capped at +3 to fireball because he has hard points in fireball?

IIRC he'll be capped =/

helvete's right. He's capped. If you natively can learn the skill, the bonus is capped.

Thanx alot for the answers guys...its not much benefit wasting those 2 slots just for 3 skills then...shako & vmagi would be better.
