Chromatic Vortex shield

I don't know much what to write except that I need the item which this post is about. So I'll be short in words.

Where does this drop? ( I'm presuming hell, but where in it?)
What's the chance for it to drop?
What's the chance for it to be socketed?
And how rare is a three socketed Chromatic Vortex?

you mean auto-mod chromatic or prefix-chromatic? The first is quite rare, because the base item (vortex shield is a class specific tc87 item.) The latter one is symply impossible to get with three sockets. In order for a migic item to get three socket it requires the prefix jewelers. And because it allready has a prefix (chromatic) that's just not going to happen. You could give it max. 2 sockets if you let larzuk punch holes in it.

I am referring to the auto mod, since I need it to make my sanctuary runeword.

Vortex shields have the highest defense, but Sacred Targe has better block and much lower str req. Vortex shields can drop from monsters lvl 81+ so those are the areas you want to look in. The higher, the better.

Vortex shields have a pretty low chance to drop (since they are a class specific, high TC, as well as the fact armors have lower drops than weapons)

The chromatic automod has a 2/21 rate on Vortex Shields.

Randomly finding one has a 1/12 chance of getting three sockets (1/3 normal or superior items have sockets, and pally shields have a range of 4 sockets [1/4 chance]). Finding a normal one and using the socket recipe has a 1/6 chance of getting three sockets. Normalizing a low-quality one and using larzuk will always get three. Normalizing and using the socket recipe has a 2/3 chance of getting three sockets.

Clearly, the chances of finding the item you want is very low.

I would however, agree that Sacred Targe to be a better item. Once you start getting high defense, those wonderful diminishing returns start having a much higher effect - the block and lower requirements are a bit more helpful.

It may be 1/6, I was using the item generation tutorial as a quick reference.

As for normalizing, yes it will reroll the automod. But Vortex has a high qlvl, so the alvl for the chromatic automod is still available - it's just like rerolling a magic item. If you find a bad one, you can still make it into something useful. Just offering one more way to find what he was looking for.

I think the 1/6 thingie only counts when socketing with the cube. Else, I'd find a LOT more 4s colossus voulges.

Also, for Vortex Shields, fixing with cube can actually get chromatic as an automod due to the very high qlvl of Vortex Shields.
