Hi all,

I want to know what's the best meatshield for a pvp sorc: 1 grizzly or 5 spirit wolfs ?

Thanks a lot for your help !

The grizzly, of course. He's much tougher and can pack a punch himself.

wolfs>grizzly for almost all matchups. Never bothered with either on a sorc, don't recall where you'd be getting them from even, but certainly that's the case for windys.

Oh... Sorry, then. I am not the best at druid summons, I just heard some good stuff on the grizzly.

Could you explain a bit more why wolfs>grizzly ?

Thanks a lot !

Most likely, more targets for the AI to target, thus decreasing the odds of targeting the sorc herself.

I am asking this for my pvp sorc, do you think it works too with players ???

A druid guide (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=590115&highlight=guide) seems to think that spirit wolfs are better too, but I don't think they're talking about pvp.

not dire wolfs, spirit wolfs. You can only get 3 dires. It won't matter against builds like a fire sorc, they'll just fireball and kill them all instantly whatever you go for. But better against smiter, foh, etc.

So you guys seem to think that spirit wofves are better than a grizzly to cover my pvp sorc?

Well, I'm going to be more specific: I have the choice between lvl 13 grizzly (5 charges) and lvl 18 spirit wolfs (30 charges).

I'd go with the 5 spirit wolves almost entirely due to the fact that you can summon 6 packs them instead of the 5 grizzlies you can summon. I would just go on how many you can get before you need to town

Of course, if theres equal amounts, I'd just go with spirit wolves for the reasons mentioned above by others.

If you unequip the weapon with the charges the summon will most likely disappear right away and I don't think Beast is a very good sorc weapon.

Simply don't bother with this, your summons die in one hit anyway.

I don't think they disappear when you switch weapon... otherwise you couldn't prebuff anything...

Personnaly, I think it will be useful to have some wolfs around me when people try to hit me :)

They do disappear if you switch the weapon. So the only way to have 5 spirit wolves is to keep 'Beast' as primary weapon, but that would be very inefficient.

Prebuffing is a whole other thing.

wow ! I didn't know they do disappear if you put the charge item in your stash !!!

Does anybody have a source for that information ?

Well, you could just try it out and see on any item that has summons (hoto, for instance).

Just test it out. If I'm wrong you can have all my characters and items (EuSCL):azn:

yeah, I've tried it - charges/summons do drop if the item that made them is unequiped. This is also true for weapon switch.

@sirpoopsalot and Darkoooo: thanks a lot for testing ! This means I cannot get any advantages from any charges, exeption made of hoto's charges... :(

Just to brighten your day further, I've read that the charges on hoto are bugged in some way. Can't say I ever felt the need to use them, though.

Crescent Moon, the rw that gives 30 charges of lvl 18 spirit wolf is a good lightning sorc weapon, for its -35% to enemy lightning resist, just prebuff everything else before you equip crescent moon as your primary weapon. However, CM has no FCR.

Ravens disappear even if you don't switch your weapon. They live for only 1 or 2 seconds:sad2:

don't bother using the wolf/grizz summon charges on a sorc, it's kinda pointless.

asside from that, in MOST situations 5 spirit wolves>>>>>> grizz. since in pvp they are too weak to tank even 1 hit (even for grizz). That's why 5 wolfs > 1 bear. unless it's an AOE attack, 5 wolves can take 5 hits while 1 bear can take 1 hit.

in other words...spirit wolves=minion stack
