How effective does having a Lower Resist Charges wand on the switch have in normal questing play. For example, would it enable a pure blizzard sorc to solo Hell? Once the cold immunes are broken does a high level Cold mastery finish off the resistance, or does it work at decreased effectiveness to the point where cold immunes are still invincible in the practical sense?

I have a blizz sorc on the brink of Hell difficulty that would like to get to Meph for MF runs, and this is SP so I don't have too many options for partying. Of course, I could probably just avoid cold immunes, but that sucks and teleporting alot around Hell usually ends with one dead sorc. So if this Lower Resist thing doesn't work, will I just have to accept the price you pay for having ridiculous ammounts of damage? And no, I haven't forgotten about my merc, he's cool, but I'm not going to sit around for ten days while he plays tug-o-war with extra fast leeching super uniques.

You should read up on how resistances and immunities work but the breakdown is:

When trying to break immunities, lower resist and conviction work at 1/5th effectiveness. I dont know the correct resistance immunes have but its around 120% (for cold) so you would need -105 lower resist curse/conviction to bring it to 99% cold res. Then your cold mastery (doesnt affect immune breaking) will kick in and reduce it a further minus amount.

For a pure cold sorc a LR wand is pretty useless. It will be either teleporting to meph or waiting for your merc.

Thanks for the info. The information on Lower Resist on the Areat Summit seemed to imply that it broke all immunities, then reduced by 1/5 effectiveness, but obviously, that would be pretty over powered.
