View Full Version : PVM - trapsin vs zealot
Hey all - I hope this thread isn't too much of a burden - but I always have liked zealots, but usually with my funds, I have never been able to build an amazing one.
My question is now that I actually have alotta funds...
I have a trapsin, 10k damage, max resists, infinity merc, etc...
If I were to take my funds (I would guesstimate I have 20 HR's at the most to potentially dedicate to this char) - would a zealot with that value of gear ever come close to being able to kill as quickly as a trapsin?
And - not a huge deal, I will check out guides more if I am going to build this char, but this has my curiosity as of now -
I am going to use last wish probably (I know its only the 2nd best weapon, but it seems cooler to me) - so should I get a defiance merc and have him yield infinity and load up on elemental small charms to help diversify my damage?
Thanks a bunch!!!!

LW is a horrible zeal weapon. It's not the second best by any means. It's only OK for smiting in trist since damage doesn't matter much in there. Go with grief, or failing that, BotD or something.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to kill nearly as fast as a trapper. What you DO get is absolute immortality except vs iron maiden and physical immunes.

a zealot will NEVER carve through PvM as fast as a Trapper.
Trappers have Death sentry, ergo, they have CORPSE EXPLOSION! which is truly the ultimate PvM skill.
look at it this way: a trapper does THREE elements of damage right out of the box (eg: naked) Lightning, Fire (corpse explo + fireblast) and Physical (corpse explo)
I have a trapper and a zealot. I agree the trapper is faster. However, my zealot isn't faster by much. (I use grief and fort BTW)
I have a question for you, if you are using infinity what do you do about mana? I have my merc carry insight and I spam like mad. I had him try infinity and I was constantly running out of mana.

Pots, mainly, and +mana item.
A Zealot is much better at bosses than a trapper.
A Zealot does not have as many problems with immunes as a trapper.
A Zealot has big problems with IM this makes act 4 diablo an act 5 baal almost impossible. I bring another char to clear the path to diablo, and baals minions.
A trapper can breeze through normal and NM as soon as he has an effective LS trap and a good source of mana.
Thanks for the input all :)
I might just keep planning this out a bit more before I have a go at it, still not bored with my trapsin just yet, but its getting there!
- as far as baal - couldn't you just run / switch to enigma and tele to the throne and then use vengeance to clear the throne room for IM?

"A Zealot is much better at bosses than a trapper." Very true
"A Zealot does not have as many problems with immunes as a trapper." True but a fire/light trapper doesn't hit trouble very often. (like mine)
"A Zealot has big problems with IM this makes act 4 diablo an act 5 baal almost impossible. I bring another char to clear the path to diablo, and baals minions." I nuisance I would say, not almost impossible. The key is to lure all the knights with no magical powers away from the ones that do. Getting a merc with windforce helps a lot too. (just got one for doing organ runs) I don't remember having too much trouble with act 5. A bit...
"A trapper can breeze through normal and NM as soon as he has an effective LS trap and a good source of mana" agreed.. almost disgustingly so. Act 1 Hell is tricky though...
