View Full Version : pierce cold & cold mastery
i saw a thread in amazon forum about someone having low CTH, and wanted to put Jah in Windforce with his zon and someone said to get blessed aim merc. RTB said that BA aura is calculated before Penetrate skill.
my question is somewhat familiar with this topic. i wanna know how is pierce cold and cold mastery calculated ? which is first ?
peace,
It doesn't matter.
Say X is a monsters cold res, A is your pierce from items and B from CM.
X - A - B = X - B - A
except in the case of cold immunes, in which the immunity would have to be broken first via lower resist curse or conviction aura before cold mastery/-cold res items did anything.

I think you read that wrong. BA aura overwrites Penetrate, and it doesn't happen anywhere else.
OK, thanks.
but, isn't skill based -% to enemy cold resistance, like in this case, Cold Mastery skill, stronger than plain -% to enemy cold resistance from items ?
i understand from Stephan that they are calculated it doesn't matter in wich order so do they stack ?
i learned before that skill based effects are stronger than those item based. b/c they don't have diminishing returns..

While this is true for some things (for example IAS in most cases and FRW) pierce from items works exactly the same as pierce from skills. There is no difference between -5% cold res from a facet and an extra point in CM.

The only -res that works differently is from Lower Resist, Conviction, Amplify Damage, and Decrepify. Those are the only things that can break immunes.
The -res you can get from gear is treated exactly the same as the -res from cold mastery.
yeah got it .. appreciate it.
thanks :)
