View Full Version : D2 and vista problem
Hello. A friend of mine got a problem with d2 earlier today. He was in a game when suddenly his game sort of went from full screen to window mode. The only thing is that it isnt window mode. There is a black boarder around his "window" unlike when you normally run in window. Also the fact that it happened when he was in a game proves that this isnt just the simple -w command parameter. He is running Vista and hence Im unable to help him very much as I use XP myself. He says that he might have pressed Caps Lock (used as ventrilo bind) as well as Ctrl + Alt and then something else. We experimented a bit and found out that Ctrl+Alt + Up arrow flips the screen upside down. Maybe this can help someone identify the problem?
Also he isnt able to show how it looks with a "print screen" as this only shows a regular screen of d2 like it always does. Not with the black boarder. I guess the only way of taking a picture of it is with a camera if you would need it to come up with a solution.
We would appreciate all suggestions on how to solve this issue. Thank you.

if he is using a notebook, there might be a key combo that changes the way the screen uses non native resolutions
could have gone from it being scaled/stretched to fill the screen to reduced native with boarders around it
My windows vista won't run full screen diablo 2, well I would have to wait like 2-5 minutes for it to start (it goes through all the numbers/letter/symbols on my keyboard in the upper left corner[you won't know what I am talking about unless it has happened to you]).
But anyway to solve this I right click on my desktop, and go to the option where you can switch themes (I believe it is the last one on the list out of about 7? Not on that computer right now). Anyway changing it to classic or was it classic XP theme solved that problem, and should help you, you do lose a bit of the flashy vista theme, but you can switch back anytime.

Which once again proves that Classic is better. ;)
He could also 'upgrade' to XP. I read some dealers are offering this upgrade to people who purchased a machine with Vista pre-infected... eeehm, installed.
I'm running Vista on my laptop. its a 1200x800 display, so I've got black border on the left and right hand side to maintain the aspect ratio.
To make the game run properly under Vista, I had to go to the compatability tab of the desktop shortcut i made and check the following..
1. Run this program in compatability mode for Windows XP service pack 2
2. Disable visual themes
3. Disable desktop composition.
If I try running with the -w switch, bad things happen and the game won't launch..
