Meteorb should mf Hell Meph and Andy. You can find decent stuff in nm but not great. If you want to build wealth, youre going to have to mf in hell. good luck
Main runs should be.
Countess, Pits, Andy, Meph, Shenk, Eld, Piddle, and nith if you can handle him.
Shenk and eld may not drop stuff very often but then can drop really good stuff, same with piddle.

Stormshields don't drop in nm. You can find decent items in nm but I'd only mf it if you really need the gear to survive in hell, If not then mf in hell.

Do I clear it, go to level 2 only, or just open the golden chest?

Excuse me for asking, but what is Pits?
Arreat Plateau Pit of Acheron, It has a big red portal on it.
Great for items, and good for leveling.

I always clear it, take of my high damage gear, put on my best MF stuff, and open the golden chest. A few runes have been popping out lately. :)

The Pit generally refers to the two-level dungeon located in the Tamoe Highland in Act I. Just follow the road out of the Outer Cloister waypoint, it should take you there. Good spot for area MF-ing. Best to clear it, or at least to target boss packs and the sparkly chest on level 2.

Rune drop does not depend on mf. And neither do chest drops, I believe.

I read a guide that says MF does affect chests.
Generally, all areas that have monster level 85 can drop all items available in the game.:
Act 1 The Pits is a very popular one and easy to find from the Outer Cloister waypoint, both levels are l85 (pits are always nice and small too).
Act 1 Mausoleum where Blood Raven is should also be quick to find (note that the Crypt is only level 83).
Act 2 Ancient Tunnels is also fairly easy to find with some fast teleporting - and is also a l85.
Act 2 Maggot lair level 3 is annoying to get to so I generally skip that (also l85).
Act 3 Sever level 2 is also l85, but you need to tp through the first level to get there.
Act 3 Forgotten Temple in Upper Kurast is also l85 but you need to find it among the other temples.
Act 3 Ruined Fane and Disused Reliquary in the Kurast Causeway is also easy to get to from the Travincial waypoint. Both are l85 areas.
Act 4 River of flame is also very easy to get to since the wp is always next to stairs down.
Act 4 Chaos Sanctum is also nice to clear if you plan on taking Diablo (but IM curse is a pain).
Act 5 Worldstone Keep level 1,2,3, Throne of Destruction is also nice to clear if you plan on taking Baal. All areas level 85!
Also, the general idea is to farm SuperUniques and bosses ofc.
Countess always drops runes and can drop up to ist (1:1109 chance) - and you should just tp fast (use high fcr) to find the stairs down to the bottom level.
Andariel is also fairly easy to get to, tp along sides until you find stairs down on both levels.
Memphisto can take a bit longer to find stairs down but at least your wp is just one level above. Lots of superuniques here too that can drop nice stuff! High fcr greatly reduce the chance of you getting hit by those nasty stygian dolls.
Shenk and Eld on the first WP in Act5, always directly South and North of WP. (I often start my mf runs with these).
Pindleskin using Anyas portal (never ever add waypoint in the Halls before Nilathak, and this portal from Anya will always be open).
Some areas are interesting of other reasons:
Lower Kurast has a high rate of charm, gem and rune drops compared to other areas. It also has some nice super-chests (near the circular bonfire) and armor stands (these drop nice white and socketed stuff).
The Arcane Sanctuary in Act 2 has the Summoner which drops keys as well as 3 areas with many super-chests, all can drop nice stuff! It can be nerve wrecking to teleport to the 4 sides though, so fcr and preferably high block/resists definitely helps!
And finally Diablo and Baal if you can find the time and bother with nasty IM curses. Both have a ton of superuniques with good loot tables. I generally skip both these on my mf runs though. Duriel is a great waste of time since you need to find the right tomb and you no longer have the clue from the quest. My favourite run is this:
Eld, Shenk, Pindleskin, Pits, Andy, Memphisto - rinse and repeat - sprinkle a little Countess run and Lower Kurast now and then too for flavour. :)
Good luck!

If you kill the summoner anyway, you have the clue.

Yes ofc, I forgot about that!
I still wont bother with Duriel anyway since I hardly ever do Arcane Sanctuary either.

^^^ Not too sure...
Also, you do you guys aim that accursed meteor w/o a tank in the pits? My merc dies a lot (no fancy ebugged armors, just reapers toll, duriel shell, vamp gaze) running other random before I do the pits, so I usually just FB and FO em all.
Nope you can kill Nilathak as many times as you want. Anyas portal will only disappear the moment you have touched the waypoint inside. Anything else would be a terrible bug since you would never be able to get there in any way...
About meteor, the nice thing about it is that while the meteor is coming down you can fire off fireballs also. So you can essentially have e.g. FO on left button, and swap between Meteor and Fireball on the right. Meteor, FB, FB, FB, FB, Meteor, FB, FB, FB... you will do crazy damage. Ancients was a piece of cake because I could meteor the whole place and just TP around as I FB them through the fires on the ground. :)
My merc never dies in the Pits unless he is swamped at all sides. In those cases I just TP so that I get him out of there quickly. When there are silly amounts of mobs its always wise to just pull a few away from there by TPing a bit back. That way you might get the nasty ones by themselves.
Interestingly though, the other day in the Worldstone Keep I met a superunique that was fire/frost immune and I just had to wait until my merc killed him, but my merc used probably 2-3 minutes!!! SU was probably leeching as well, so a nice leechfight. :)

What is absolutely right think to do. If you have FB/FO on left button and ALLWAYS tele on right button neither you or your merc needs to die. This time itīs not so much about your gear - its about your tactics. Just watch for archers - they are deadly since their AR is MUCH higher than melees (ca 7k compared to ca 4k).
Btw - *jcldude - waiting for a meteor in Pit is not an option. When it finally falls most of players are killing another monsters 3 screens forward
Hehe, well I frequently Meteor way ahead where I am going. Its such a cheap spell to cast so by the time it lands we are about there with the merc. Since I use a full block build with SS I am not afraid of tanking a bit as I land those meteors on top of us after also. Some use a tp to position themselves and merc, click a meteor on merc and take a few steps back, and from then on just meteor or FO depending on what kind of mobs there are.
But then again I am not a very fast MF'er either. :) - Got an online mate and he had practically cleared the place before I had landed my first meteor.
A question for you MF'ers, do you do it with an empty inventory or do you carry loads of skillers as well? I usually have 4x8 slots free in inventory (carry cube, tp tome, torch, anni, 2 resist sc's, 2 mf sc + 5fhr, 3 skillers, keys, flawless gem) and 6 slots in cube, but I feel I frequently have to go to town... probably because I pick up all rare drops.

Do not pick up ALL rare drops. Leave on ground some of the less useful item classes. I generally pick up magic/rare jewelery, potential grey items (may be nice socketables but more often not), circlets, rare elite/exceptional weapons, belts, boots, gloves. Armor more rarely (only if to cash in), same with shields (unless they're paladin). Do not pick up keys.
If the floor is too littered so some items are not displayed, I recommend the followig trick: release the Alt (or whatever button you're using), and randomly collect everything close to you. After a complete load, open inventory, right click every drinkable potion, and drop all useless items.
I do this sometimes when I open superchests in false ends of Arcane Sacntuary.

Why would you only pick up excep/elite weapons, if you get good mods on a normal one then that might even be better, and you can always up later. Shields can be good too. I pick up almost all rares.
I always pick up all kinds of orbs, wands and staffs simply because they usually sell for max gold (and dont take much space). All rares because I often dont have a clue what makes them worth more than others (usually claws leave me disappointed though). Ofc I pick up all grey just in case they are the right kind and perhaps ethereal - the right mix and you could have a little goldmine... or should I say rune-mine. :) - Naturally I also pick up whites that can be socketed (e.g monarchs) to something good.
I leave all magic items except rings, amulets, jewels, orbs, wands, staffs. Sometimes I wished there was a level indicator on items when Alt was held down... some spawn with so low stats that they are hardly worth a thing. Ah yes, I also pick up all kinds of gems... even chipped ones (I mule all gems and cube em when I got the right setup that will make me a flawless minimum). And naturally all full rejuvs... and often normal rejuvs if belt isnt filled up.

The ilvl of an item won't tell you a thing. For example, all items dropped from Hell Baal are ilvl 99. But that does not mean they can't have only +1 to light radius or something.
I wasnt thinking about ilvl but rather which level you need to use the item. That usually gives an indication of which level of mods have been selected, which again sets the price of the item at a vendor.
ProfessionalBerg

Hrm... I still don't think it'd tell you much. I mean, some mods, like high life, have big rlvl, but don't sell for as much as for, say, single tree mods, which are rlvl 42.
Yeah, you are probably right. Tree mods items (on a higher tier) will always be wise to pick up if you want some cash. But some indicator would at least have enabled me to see at a glance what to leave and what to pick up.
But then again, sometimes I am just bored and I dont pick up anything besides uniques, sets and gems. Those MF runs are usually the most efficient ones ofc.

Sure, you can MF a lot of areas....but want to get the most stuff for the least amount of time??
Here's what you do...
Do Countess, then Andy, then Summoner, then Meph, then Pin, then Nil.
Keys, keys, keys. Keys, are the fastest way to grow wealth in D2. Also, from doing andy and Meph, you can get nice drops as well.
I can do that run in about 5-9 minutes total(yes, I'm fast..and no, I don't use map hacks). 2 big boss kills, 4 Super Uniques, and 3 chances to get keys.
I don't bother with lvl85 areas. If you do them solo, your drop rate decreases greatly and finding a game with a bunch of people in it is really difficult to do.
If you have enough good equipment and a great merc, you can also do baal. I've found doing baal to take too much time, however, and no longer include him in my runs.
So there you have it, the recipe for fast wealth.
Just as a side note. I've played many sorc builds. My most successful, so far, has been the meteorb. I have recently built a blizz/chain lightning sorc and am trying that build out. The main reason I wanted a light sorc was to do nil, because all those damn monsters are cold immune around him and meteor+fireball was taking too damn long. Seems like I'll need a whole bunch of +skill items though because chain lightning doesn't do much damage at the current
