View Full Version : Dealing with resistances the easy way

Or how to kill Dclone quickly ^_^:
Cant afford an infinity?
Well, this was an idea i thought of which i never seem to see: a simple staff of lower resist on switch, bought from akara nets you a hefty -30% to all enemy resistances. Combine that with tals set for instance, and you'll have a total of -45%
Those 95% reistances dont seem so scary anymore do they? And as youre only goin to use it occasionally (on big hard monsters) the repair costs aren't that important.
What do you think?
Well, if you make a cold sorc, their mastery reduces resistances instead of increasing raw damage, so a cold sorc doesn't have to worry about Dclone's resistances. But I'd think a 1 point smiter would probably work a lot better with inferior gear.

The point was if youre a character that usually has trouble with resistances ie. a meteorb or a light sorc without infinity

yes i support the idea, i use a lower resist wand myself :)
Yeah then that would work fine.
Hmm... sounds cool. Going to try this. Any idea how long the lower resist works? (Is it an aura you gain?).

Not an aura. LR is a curse casted on your enemies.
Ah so you need to have it as a switch and use it e.g. once on a boss you are fighting then? How long does the curse work?

Correct. The LR charges work just like normal necro curse so duration depends on slvl of the charge.

do you mean resists as in every monster in hell? cause that's a waste of time cursing every monster you'll face.
or did you mean only bosses?
or did you mean immunes? i'm not sure if/what immunities lr breaks.
and meteorb shouldn't have a immunes problem since it's dual tree nor resist problem since it has meteor for bosses.
Meteor wont do that much damage if the mob has 95% resist to all elements. You then need some effective way of getting resists down. Cold Mastery should take care of frost, but in a meteorb spec, frost is as secondary attack and any -fr on mobs would help greatly making those meteors hurt DClone.

ya. 95% to 64% is a 7x increase in damage
and also, quoted from arreat summit i just noticed:
"Lower Resist removes elemental and poison immunities."
although ive not tested this at all, and im not sure how effective it'd be with the immunity penalty thing

It works only 20% as effective once 100% immune or more. Say you have slvl5 LR (which lessens resists by 47%), you only reduce 47/5 or 9% of that immune monster's resistance. You will be able to break its immunity if it had only 108% resistance. Usually, you won't be able to break cold immunes in Hell and occasionally break FIs and LIs.

yeah, thats what i thought, so unless its got resistance of 106 (for a lv 1 LR) or less it wont work. ah well

Yes, lower resist is a great, great curse. Way too many people just tends to "mis"underestimate the power of lower resist.
