View Full Version : A magic find ? I've always wanted to ask.

I used to play D2 back in the 1.08-1.09 dayz and recently made a comback after about 4-5 years away from the game. Used to lurk on these forums back then... I really enjoy magic finding, kinda like hitting the slot machine at a casino hoping for a big score.

My question is what is the base % to drop uniques that meph and baal and the other end act bossess have? I mean what is the base figure that our magic find manipulates? For instance, mephy can drop up to six items when you kill him. Does he have like a base 5% chance for each one of those slots to roll unique (which is then manipulated by mf%)?

I 've always been curious on what the exact figures were. Any response from the forum gurus would be appreciated. I just wanted to understand better why i can have days or runs where meph drops uniques and sets on every run for a LONG stretch and then conversely have LONG stretches of blues and yellows (I know items can fail rolls) but the stretches can be so bad that damn Kris or dirk don't even roll unique...

It's not quite that simple. The chance for an item to be unique is dependent upon the mlvl/qlvl ratio. I believe this info is in the Item Generation Tutorial, or at least linked from there. I remember Thrugg writing up the whole procedure to explain the benefits of 1st killing act bosses.

What this basically means is that if hell baal drops a Short Sword, then it has a greater "base" chance of being unique than if he drops a Sacred Armor.

Also, class specific items have better chance of being higher quality than other items.

I also remember Thruggs writeup, but I have no idea of where it was that I read it.
