View Full Version : Griffons from Travincal?

Someone claimed they got Griffs from Hell Trav. I am skeptical. I looked at the German drop calc, it said the 3 boss council can't drop it. Then under the item itself it said council members have a 1 in a million chance, then next time I tried for said 1 in 5 million chance. :P
In a related question - where's the best place to actually find a Griffs, and what's the best character with which to find it? (i.e. best killing speed for that area.) The questionable drop calc said some high monsters had a 1 in a hundred thousand or so chance to drop, but I doubt the accuracy of that thing...

Bartuc The Bloody's minions have 1/5.000.000 chance to drop Griffon's Eye on /p1, but they're in Throne of Destruction.
According to Atma, no council in Travincal can drop a Griffon's Eye. However, some other monsters can:
Uniques (those random ones):
- Hierophant
- Night Lord
Also, minions to all of those.
Also, champion forms of those.
Chances for unique bosses: 1/120k, champions: 1/300k, minions: 1/5.4M.
Baal has the best chance to drop griffs: 1/45k, or 1/30k for the first kill. However, there's all those pesky mosnters in the way of him, whereas pindle can be be run much faster and has a 1/60k chance.
The best bet would be clearing level85 areas, such as the pit- each unique there has a 1/118k chance.
(all numbers rounded, and based off of players1 with 0mf)

- Can regular pit monsters drop Griffs, or only the unique monsters?
- What's the best MF pit runner? Hammerdin is bound to be inefficient. I used to run a FO/CL sorc in the pit, it was doable, but can bowzons do it better? Any others?

I would say Bow - Strafe/Multi for Pits. Tried with all kinds of sorcs and summoners but still end up with my good old amazon.
No fuzz with tele or resummons. Just pure firepower :)
Some people just hunt down all the unique monsters (when you know most of the maps it's easy to tell where they are) using a character with high fcr.
Haven't really run Ancient Tunnels that much but if you prefer a cold sorc you should try it out. Same thing, different place but a tad harder to find seeing as there's no roads leading to it. Guess there some general pointers or signs but none that I know off.

Hm, yes, but the chance is only one in 5 million. I guess there is a point to skipping them :lipsrsealed: (And I never noticed, while minions get the +2 level modifer to drops, they still have the same drop chance as non-uniques.)

Where do can you find accurate drop chances at? And remember, if you kill 10 normal monsters, that 1/5 million chance is approx 1 / 500k. Probably best to clear all the significant packs if they have any chance at all. Not to mention I think it would be far better in a players 8 game, etc, which would help the normal monsters a lot more than bosses.

The levels of bosses and their minions are higher by 3 while champions get +2.
I run the Pits to great effect with a infi wielding nova sorceress, but there should be plenty of threads about running the pits on the forums

In some cases, when searching for some items, minions actually have a worse chance of specific items, because their TC gets upgraded which makes them able to drop more items.

I do the pits with a singer babo. Stuff there has low hitpoints, so they go down pretty quick, even with 8 players in game. And you can pop corpses :)

Sorry for a bit OT here, in the pits, what immunes are not present? I mean, what kind of immunes are there?

There are no physical immunes in the pits, not even the bosses. There is no element which works on all monsters there (edit) except poison, but that's not an element in its pure sense .

Lots of cold immunes 1-2 monster types usually.
Fire immunes, that resummoning 'rakanishu' and minions are fire immune.
Quite often lightning immune archers.
Not sure about poison immunes, but quite rare if at all.
No psysical immunes -> bowama
I run with FreezingMultiTeleBowAma Pits, 12frame tele, never died so far while teleing, so its safer than with sorc. Slower but safer, speed kills :)
I also run Ancient tunnel,Maggot3,Three 'Travi' temples,Chaos,Throne etc... all typical TC85 areas in full games.
Lots of areas so at least 1-4 is usually undone in full games.
Havent found Griffon yet with ama, but at least death's fathom dropped yesterday in full game chaos.
