Im talking about PvP.

How much does it actually do?
I have just found this ring

10%fcr 118AR 31life 90mana fire res 15% PSN lenght reduced by 25%

I have a ring that has about the same stats, a bit higher life more + all res and instead of psn length reduced, it has rep. life.

So my question is, how much does that 25% really help vs psn based chars like WWsins

keep it, if you are fighting a poison char slip it on.

well...ima try to help. ww sins use venom, which is .4 seconds, or .8 in hell(double duration). with ur 25% PLR, venom lasts .6 seconds. Suppose the venom did 4k over .8 seconds, which is 5k/sec. Now that the venom only lasts 6 seconds, 5000*0.6=3000 dmg. So there, U just elminated 25% dmg. Neither PLR or res is better than the other, combining both gives much results.

You have a +100% poison length penalty in hell mode, so -25% reduces it by 1/8.

It also depends how often they can refresh the poison, since the poison timer is reset with each new hit.

You have a +100% poison length penalty in hell mode, so -25% reduces it by 1/8.

Does that mean that the minimum poison duration in Hell is 125% = 200% - 75% cap?

Or does that mean one can reduce the 200% to 25%, but by using 175% PDR?

good question

The cap comes into play when you are beyond 175% reduced length and that's pretty hard to achieve anyway.

thanks for that info.

The - 100% resistance penalty in Hell applies to poison length as well; you effectively have Poison Length Reduced (PLR) by - 100% i.e. Poison Length Increased by 100%. To negate this penalty, you need PLR by 100% e.g. a combination of an amulet with the Defiance suffix (PLR by 75%) and a ring with the Remedy suffix (PLR by 25%).

This means your Remedy ring results in PLR by - 75% (- 100 + 25) i.e. Poison Length Increased by 75%. Without it, Venom's poison length is 0.8 (0.4 x 2) seconds in Hell; with it, Venom's poison length is approximately 0.7 (0.4 x 1.75) seconds.

PLR by % is capped at - 100% and 75%, so for PvM purposes, PLR by 175% will result in PLR by 75% (- 100 + 175) in Hell. However, for PvP, players can have - % to Enemy Poison Resistance (EPR) equipment, which unlike Lower Resistance applies both Poison Resist - % and PLR by - %; PLR by 25% would be negated by - 25% EPR.

PLR by % is useful if your opponent can't reapply their poison damage and thus reset its length before it expires. For example, a Whirlwind Assassin attacks every four frames; if only 1/4 of attacks hit, and 1/4 of those hits are blocked, only 1/16 of attacks can apply poison damage i.e. once every 64 (4 x 16) frames or 2.56 (64/25) seconds on average. Since Venom's poison would usually expire before it could be reapplied, PLR by % could potentially reduce its damage to 1/4. Of course, if 1/4 damage were enough to kill you, PLR by % would be no help at all...

PLR by % would also be much less useful against opponents who could reapply their poison damage and thus reset its length before it expired, and/or equip a lot of - % EPR e.g. a Necromancer spamming Poison Novas while equipping Death's Web Unearthed Wand (- 40-50% EPR), Rainbow Facet Jewels (- 3-5% EPR each) and Trang-Oul's Wing Cantor Trophy (- 25% EPR) with Trang-Oul's Girth Troll Belt and Trang-Oul's Claws Heavy Bracers.
