View Full Version : Ubers are fun!
I've been running Ubers lately with my friend using my IK Barb to Taunt baddies off of him and Zerk the Phys Immunes (and ofc, BO!) but last night it was my turn to test my Zeal/1-point Smiter build...at first, I was worried but they all went down in a matter of minutes! When you have the right gear, it's cheezy as Hell! The only time I was annoyed slightly was Baal's mana drain (4 mana pots!) and he kept jumpin' around all over the gaff!
His setup:
Helm: Guillarmes with an All Res 9 jool
Amulet: Metalgrid 29 Res 433 AR (AR helps PvM a ton! Res for Ubers)
Weapon 1: Heaven's Light with 2 x Shael
Shield 1: Spirit Sacred Targe with 35 base Res
Weapon 2: Lifetap Balanced Knife (didn't use it!)
Shield 2: 32 base Res White Zakarum shield (ready for socketing!)
Armour 1: Treachery Wire Fleece buff
Armour 2: GA with pRuby
Gloves: Dracs (bad ones!)
Belt: 39 Vit Dungoes
Boots: Gores
Ring 1: Rare with 8 All Res n other
Ring 2: Ravenfrost
I had BO from my friends IK Barb in the mini Ubers and BO + Oak from my friends Windy in Tristram although the BO would have been enough!
Shame I have to rebuild him now...see the 'Fallen Friends' section for my stupidity!

Yeah it was a blast - Once I got the hang of taunting and then stunning everyone in a tight group I was ok - and of course a few smacks with Berserk helped (when I remembered I had the skill!) LOL
Was a good run - nice to see what I now need to complete my smiter - just a few things really. Gutted you died just after - nice necro torch mind.
Gratz and condolences....but such is hardcore...
I still havent ever faced these guys, may never who knows.

I found the mildly scary part the amount of minions they generate round them in a short space of time - soloing the Ubers i can imagine is difficult if you get surrounded.

ive never really faced the ubers on hc yet ive just sat the and watched other people kill them for me :(
i think when my hammerdin hits 95 ill add fanat to his skill list and see what he can do

He teleported next to her and there was a boss pack with might and cursed.
And while i tried to get his gear back so that his other char in the game could loot (i joined the game after he died), he accidently hits esc on the other char. Since then, he hasn't been online :hanky:
mephy can cause major problems too if resists aren't stacked enough,
just about 1 hitted my lvl 92 barb a while back and ive heard of a few other people being 1 hitted occasionally by him
Personally I find Lilith the scary one.
Everyone knows about Meph's conviction so if you aren't prepared for it it's your own damn fault - but Lilith can just smack well geared Uber pallies to death rather easily.
I've had a few times where you're losing 2/3 or more of your life per hit and it's only the speed and Life Tap of your hits that gives you a prayer. She got my first Uber Pally and then I had to have Mouse's Nihl runner come loot me (he was in the game to Bo me and watch my back) but even he couldn't stand in the room with her, had to lead her partway away, run by, loot an item, to town with it - rinse and repeat. She almost one-shotted him as this was going on as well, and since then I've been ridiculously careful with her but she still gets my blodd going more than any of the other Generals or Ubers.

Many Paladin's with semi decent gear and BO could take all 3 Uber's at once. Lilith on the other hand, is the only one who consistently has taken chunks out of my life. I know I wouldn't far as well without BO. That not even mentioning the possibility of being Amp'd from off screen.
Mephy just takes a bit of stack as hes no problem. Lilith is the one I'm most afraid of.
However, its not much a challenge anymore with my Zealot, so I have been thinking of trying my kicker/Fury Wolf/Frenzy Barb for a change. Probably not vs Mephy though unless I am able to stack enough.

when went did lilith - i did get amped and she took half my bulb in 1 shot - i had 4.4k life with BO. I may of got clocked by her and minion at the same time though - it was busy!

Damn right it was busy, and with Lillith it was just your BO then, no Oak as Tom was his sorc! On the way to Lillith an Antidote pot dropped so I quickly popped it before going on her but she was easy with the Smiter, seriously! When I was playing support role with my IK Barb on previous Uber runs she drained me many times and scared me the most out of the mini's though, nasty wench!

Iirc Ubers could roll up to 2.8 k damage on a critical hit. Add amp and might and 6k become reality. Lilith definatly scares me most aswell. Her attack frequency is that high, that she actually will roll the 2.8 k once in a while and the magic balls of pain from the witches she usually has arround herself doesnīt make the whole fight more confortable.
I thought the critical from Lillith only hit 1.4k, and that being the highest out of any of the ubers/minis.
On the Amazon Basin forum this one poster figured that if you had a worst case scenario (Might, Fanaticism, Amp, Critical strike) that Lillith could roll "7,716-8,488"
I don't think anyone has a smiter that could live through that.

I canīt find the post regarding this topic. Maybe it was 1.4 k and I calculated Amp already. I just could remeber 2.8 k damage, because Lilith managed to one-hit my Smiter in SC who had 2.6 k life, but no damage reduction. I was a little irratated, so I asked in the statistics forum and someone of the code diggers ( I think RTB, not sure though ) came up with that number.

It huge damage numbers like that, that make me always want to prebuff before facing Lilith. It is much easier and safer to do with someone else so you have good solid support. IIRC, I have only soloed the Uber's once in HC, just to see if I could handle it. But even then, I was self BO'd. But 7,716-8,488 damage??? Oh dear god you would need to be a Wolfbarb with a high level Oak around to survive that. Not to mention you would get hit with it fast so you most likely wouldn't survive very long.
One thing that I found out helps ALOT with Lilith, is my summoner Necro (Hell, he helps alot with all the Mini Uber's and even main Uber's if you want). Having the whole beefy army there to takes hits helps take the heat off the main killer, i.e. Smiter, Kicker etc.
It can be scary when Lilith has a monster spawn right around here, since you run the risk of getting amp'd or just taking extra not needed hits which is where I found Attract comes in VERY handy. I usually would cast Tap throughout the room several times ensuring that I got Lilith as well, then go at it with Attract. Any monsters that I may not see, are then no long focus on us, but rather themselves instead.

I'm going back to my old opinion that the Furnace is more of a pain in the ***!
Did Ubers again last night (back to the old setup of me being IK Barb tank Taunting baddies away from my smiter buddy and 'zerking Phys Immunes) and Pit Lords mixed in with OK's makes for slow and annoying clearing (even though my mate switches to his sorc for the Furnace!) as you don't want to whirl into a big pack and get caught out by IM but you can't run up to the OK's to zerk without getting surrounded by Pit Lords! At one point, my BO ran out and I was mobbed by at least 15 Pit Lords so my life plummeted!!
Tristram went smoothly, apart from when my mate unexplainably dropped 2 seconds into fighting Meph! Now that Salv was gone I ran around the back of the cathedral and to the portal quick-sharp!
15-10 Necro Torch (:undecided:) was the score, my mate has 'lent' it to me...I love getting his cast-offs!

You think my Bowa can be of any help there, or would she just be a burden? I think the MiniUbers could be taken out a lot faster.
She could well be of help if she can knockback things and snipe OK's from a distance...literally living up to your forum name Erik!
Next time your on i'll shout ya if we are gonna do Ubers...exp is nice as well as just doing it!

Go ahead and do it anyway dude, I mean, I use lvl 88 to craft everything and it's not the optimal level! I'm ridiculously close to lvl 89 so if I kill a few things in Hell (or Uber again!) then i'll craft for you with no worries!

Actually, If you check out Superdaves guide to glove crafting, its recommend to be even lower than that. Something like in the mid 70's to insure you get the mods you want, but no useless ones that just make the level req on the gloves to high.
IDK, the only mod that is real high on gloves I saw on Arreat is 75 and Perfection for a big +dex number, now I can see it as a nice mod, but next highest I think was 65.
Personally for boots and glooves you would like to have some stats but speed/resists are the big ones.
20% IAS is lvl 43,
3% ML is 35,
Giant aka Strength is 59,
Godly is 50,
18-25 for single resists,
60 for +3 Bow or Java..etc
it is generally best when gambling and crafting to figure out what is most important and try and get the right lvl guy to eliminate unwanted mods. this is why I try and keep a lvl 25ish guy around alot to gamble belts/boots/gloves, nothing nearly as pretty as a set of 30 FRW triple resist boots in the 2X+ range each and can be 40.
I may be wrong, but something tells me that mods that cant spawn on an item can still roll for that item thus end up as a failed mod, so rolling at 95 and scoring +2 all skills with Gloves just gives you no mod.
That and IIRC all crafted items are +/- 5 lvls of the crafter, using an 88 can get you lvl 93 items, and using a 96 can actualy get you lvl 101 stuff, I have seen them!

I thought everything was capped at lvl 99. There's only one mod that spawns at 99+, though I have to look that up. You sure you're certain on this?

I believe that was the case in older patches, but IIRC, such a crap feature was fixed in 1.10.

Ubers yesterday were fun. Tika, a friend of him and I went to take on the baddies ( not sure if Ivan was with us aswell ), as I had collected 3x3 keys. Although the mixture of chars was not the best there were not many scary moments. Tika was on his Cold sorc, the friend joined with a Smiter and I took my Seklliemancer and had BO-Barb on the Notebook.
Lilith took out some of my Skellies, but no real danger here.
Duriel was easy as always.
The OKs on the way to Izual were a pain and constantly kept me busy casting new skellies. At one point I even had to go back to town and create a new army in pindles garden. What was risky aswell was, that the Smiter started his job before all OKs were dead and I didnīt dare to tele on top of them, becaused I feared our sorc could get into trouble then. Luckily no deeds here.
Ubertrist scared me a bit, because I was the Summoning target for the Ubers and it took the Smiter a while to bring them down so there were like 20-30 Venom Lords arround me. Dim Vision and my army reduced the danger, but still a little scary.
The outcome was more or less satisfying. A 15/20 torch, which is really nice, but for one of two classes I will hardly ever play ... Amazon. Until I can trade it for Sorc/Pala/Barb/Necro/Assa I will use it for the stats however.
GG McCain, did the Smiter have a name that would be bordering on infraction here?! If so, that was Tom!
