View Full Version : A "pack" of Blood Hawk nests ?!?!?

I thought I'd seen every possible combination of monster spawns in the ~decade I've been playing this game. But I've never seen this before: A "Boss" Unique Blood Hawk nest, with Five "Minion" Blood Hawk nests, all together in a tight group.

Has anyone else ever seen this? Or anything like it?

It happens from time to time.

I guess there's no reason for them not to exist. But seeing it for the first time after years and years of play was a little shocking. My skellys+merc had two of them down (and a dozen or so Blood Hawks) before I thought to get a screenshot.

Just thought: Totally unrealistic, but it would have been kinda cool if the Boss nest spawned Boss Blood Hawks.

Blood hawks from nests neither give XP nor do they drop anything AFAIK, so that would be a bit of a waste, but it might be an interesting challenge :azn:

Would be even better if they spewed out bosspacks themselves.

I saw my first pack of these not too long ago myself and thought it was strange too haha

Yes, ive seen them and pretty darn strong too, it had some crazy mods wich would seem useless to a nonattacking stillstanding hive.

Think ive got a screenshot of it, let me search a bit.

edit: found it.

at least it isn't immune to a list of things... that could be annoying...

I've encountered this once as well, with a Meteorb sorc. I remember them taking a very long time to kill as well.

On the subject of weird Unique monsters, I've always wanted to find a Monster Shrine in Act 2, go spawn a Flying Scimitar, lure it to the shrine and hit it hopefully creating a Unique/Champion Flying Scimitar just for laughs. Does anyone know if Monster Shrines can do this?

yes, they can.

Ha, this is very funny, I was just about to make a new thread about this when I saw this one. Any way, yea I discovered a pack too, and DID remember to take a screenshot b4 I turned them into compost. I didn't w8 long enough to see whether or not the boss one spat out boss crows though.

More nest weirdness: behold the Champion nest! I was able to hork it and it dropped gold/potions.

Yes, they certainly can:

Here's another boss scimitar (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v341/insane-wayne/Selena/MoonSkull.jpg) I recently made. I've only done it twice in all the years I played. Boss scimitars do not get a boss drop, they only drop standard scimitar stuff like a sword or gem. Also, they have the potential to hit very hard. One hit took off ~600 life IIRC.

Boss scimitar: Great idea

Somewhere in the patch notes, it says something along the lines of

"Prevented monster shrines from affecting the "invisible monster" in the Worldstone Keep".

Now that, would have been cool :D Invisible "boss" Baal.

Hawk Nest with mana burn

How can it burn mana if it cannot hit?

Mana burn, spectral hit may seem useless to them, but at least they get some resists out of it. Teleport and Extra Strong on the other hand.... And cursed, unless they have some enchantment to curse you with (Charged bolts, death explotions).

Always amuses me when Imp type bosses get Teleport.

Nihlathak can also get Teleport.
And how about those vulture bosses with Multiple-Shot?

idk how, but I think that nest cursed me lol

AFAIK he difference between builtin teleport and teleport from a random boss mod is that the latter heals them a bit, but I'm not sure about that.

I've seen a couple of those hawk nests, they always surprise me. My personal favorite though is the boss/champion packs of the blowup guys. They sometimes show up in WSK. Even if you kill them before they go "BOOM!" they don't drop anything :(

Insane - lol, that scimitar boss is awesome! I have to try that sometime....

Speaking of randomly being cursed, does anyone know what else besides curse stacks onto boss packs holy freeze aura?

I thought they did, but idk, I seem to recall killing some and having them drop.

Haha, thats awesome.

Now I'm wondering whether that could also work on a Gargoyle Trap/Fire Tower/Lightning Spire if a monster shrine was close enough...

I tried a Gargoyle Trap and it didn't work. I'm guessing it won't work on the other objects. I also tried a river snake (after killing both its tails) and that didn't work either. My next try I hope to make a boss baby maggot or spawner pup.

No Idea what they're supposed to shoot, but thinking those monsters couldn't be MSLE has killed me in the (distant) past.

@Krischan: The healing part in teleport was nerfed in 1.08 I think. In 1.07 it is extremely annoying, especially on fast or hard to kill monsters.

Just curious but, can a "Boss" nest spawn with Teleport? And more importantly, would it actually be able to teleport?

If I ever did see a nest teleport, I'd probably think it was just a flashback and go splash cold water in my face.:rolleyes::laugh:

krischan

I'm not sure if they can teleport at all. They are not just monsters which cannot move or attack. You cannot curse them, for example, so a few other things might not work with them as well.

That can be done. Iīve seen a couple of screenies with them from Sirianīs adventures.
